Laptop Review: I-Book G4

G4

As with many things, my 12-inch iBookG4 Mac laptop was a hand me down from my sister. At first I didn’t think much of the laptop. In fact, I actually preferred to use my Dell desktop instead. Why? Well, because I always thought Apple computers and laptops were made for dumb people. I began using the iBook a lot more after realizing that having to share the desktop with my brothers was becoming too much of an inconvenience and hassle with all of the homework that I had to get done on the computer. A little after I began using the iBookG4, I discovered that I was actually extremely satisfied with the performance.

What I love about my 12-inch iBookG4 is the fact that it’s designed to be simple. Apple manufactured consumer electronics are designed to be straightforward and easy to use. Mac laptops and desktops are typically hassle free because the chances of receiving a virus are slim. The reason why it’s unusual for Mac users to be victims of hackers is because not many people use Apples. Therefore, hackers aren’t able to target as many people if they were to create a trojan targeting Mac users. Another perk of the iBookG4 is the long battery life. It has over six hours of battery life. If you’re always on the road or on cross-country flights, you can get a lot done in six hour. You can catch up on movies or get work done. Furthermore, the iBookG4’s has wireless connectivity built into it, allowing you to receive wireless internet almost anywhere! In addition, the iBookG4 is actually pretty light weight. It doesn’t weigh much and is quite compact, making it easy to port around.

What I dislike about the iBookG4 is the fact that it overheats easily. However, I’m pretty sure this is true with all laptops. Overheating of laptops can be easily resolved by using cooling pads, which cost around $20 at Staples. One thing that bothers me about the iBookG4 is that when ever something is loading, the cursor turns into a circular rainbow, indicating that you can’t do anything on that application until it’s finished loading, which will be designated when the cursor turns back into the normal pointer. For instance, if Safari (the main web browser on Macs) is loading a page, then you can’t switch to any of the other tabs that are opened. However, you can switch to a Word document and work on it while Safari finishes loading. Another well known and common problem with the iBookG4 is the power adapter. It’s known for being poorly designed because the cable comes apart, resulting in the charger not working at all. But if you take good care of the adapter, I’m sure that you won’t need a replacement any time soon after you purchase you iBook. But in case it does stop functioning and the cable comes apart, like mine did after a year, you can simply purchase the Macally iBook Adapter for only $30, compared to the $80 adapter that Apple offers. The Macally Adapter works great and the cable is probably stronger since mine hasn’t torn yet.

Though the Apple iBookG4 can’t be compared with a normal desktop and doesn’t have a powerful processor, keep in mind that it’s inexpensive, priced at only a grand, and well designed. I am absolutely in love with my iBook! I get everything done on it, including my Associated Content articles! So go get your own iBookG4 today! I promise you that you’ll fall in love with it too.
