Wright’s Silver Cream Polish Review

Sassafras, Silver Polish, Silverware

Several years ago my mother-in-law gave me a shoe box full of silverware, and this was the real stuff! It was old and had been in the family for years, but boy did it look bad. The pieces were all tarnished and some even had dark black spots on them. What to do?

I purchased a ten ounce jar of Wright’s Silver Cream Polish, and went to work trying to clean up the numerous pieces of silverware. It actually did a pretty nice job, considering the condition the silverware was in to begin with!

Description

Wright’s Silver Cream Polish comes in a squatty 10 ounce container. It’s blue and white with a solid blue lid, and the opening is a generous 3 1/4″ in diameter, so it’s easy to get the paste out of the jar.

The paste is a light raspberry color, and it comes with a round sponge that rests on top of the paste, which you can use to clean your silver items with.

My Thoughts

There are a lot of silver cleaners on the market today, and I also own those silver polishing cloths that remove tarnish. However, this job was too large for those cloths, there was no way I could clean all this silverware with three small clothes!

The directions are simple, wipe on with a clean damp soft cloth or sponge, polish gently, rinse off immediately, and dry thoroughly with a clean soft cloth.

The container does not say what kind of ingredients are in this formula, so I checked online with the products Material Safety Data Sheet, and it reads that the silver polish is non-hazardous and non-toxic. That’s good to know! I don’t find any warnings on my jar, but it is a few years old.

When using this paste, I really don’t like the smell of it. In fact, I had it out the other day to clean something, and one of my kids said it smelled like the dentists office. The MSDS says that it has sassafras odor, but I don’t really know what sassafras smells like, but I doubt it smells like my paste.

I also find that when I am cleaning a lot of items, it really pays to use those thin rubber gloves, the kind that they use in doctors offices. This paste really dried out my hands, and the tarnish also got all over my fingers when I was cleaning my silverware. It made quite a mess, and it was good to be protected.

As far as the shelf life of the product, I have no clue. I do know that when I used it a year ago, the cap didn’t get screwed on tight enough, and when I recently got it out, the paste was all dried up and hard as a rock. I added some very hot water to it and mixed it up, which seemed to do a pretty good job of reconstituting the product, and it worked just fine for me after doing so.

This is not an expensive item, it retails for around $5.00, and will last a long time. I love that it’s non-toxic, as I always prefer not having hazardous ingredients sitting around my home. If you are looking for a good silver polish, I recommend Wright’s Silver Cream Polish.
