Hoover Mach 3 Cyclone Vacuum Review

Dyson Vacuum, Hoover

While visiting my daughter for the past couple of weeks, I had a chance to try out her Hoover Mach 3 Cyclone Vacuum. She said that they had wanted to purchase a Dyson, but could not afford one, so they settled on the inexpensive Hoover Mach 3 Cyclone, and love it. I have to agree, this is a great vacuum at a great price!

This Hoover looks very similar to other bagless vacuums, with the familiar “wind tunnel” technology. It’s made of plastic, like most models on the market today, but it’s lightweight and easy to use. Having used both the Dyson and the Hoover Mach 3, I can say that they indeed seem very similar to me. The Hoover has a filtration system that spins the dirt and dust in the clear bagless canister.

The unit does take filters, but they are permanent and do not need to be replaced with expensive filters from the store. The on/off switch is easy to locate at the top of the handle, and the lever at the foot lowers the vacuum smoothly and easily. There are a few things that I love about this Hoover that make it a smarter choice, in my opinion, over my Dyson. First, the head of the upright Hoover is slim and easily fits under furniture and into smaller spaces. Second, the ability for the Hoover to edge clean is, in a word, amazing! It’s not super noisy and it has a nice 32 foot long cord that allows me to go from one room to the next without replugging it into a new outlet.

It comes with a few tools, among which I found the pet tool particularly effective. With two cats in the house, cat hair really has a tendency to end up everywhere, and this attachment allows us to easily and effectively remove pet hair from furniture and carpeting. It is also a nice tool to use for cleaning the stairs, a job that I hate most when it comes to vacuuming. The extension wand is easy to remove, and works very similar to the extension wand in my Dyson. It extends out to 10 feet, and can be used with a crevice tool and dusting brush.

Since the Hoover Mach 3 Cyclone Vacuum is bagless, you can see when the dirt bin is getting full, and emptying it is very easy, you push a button and the bottom drops open and allows the dirt and dust to be dumped into the garbage. It can be a bit messy and leave dust in the air, so I prefer to dump it into the outdoors garbage. This is especially important if you have allergies or asthma, you don’t want extra dust being put into the air in your home. Hoover claims that with this model the suction remains the same even when it has accumulated up to 10 ounces of dirt. I find that to be quite accurate, this Hoover had great suction power even when the dirt bin was 3/4 full.

Vacuuming the house is not one of my favorite chores, and using a vacuum that is efficient and easy to use makes a big difference. When I used the Hoover Mach 3, I didn’t have to go back and forth over the carpet more than once to remove dirt and debris, it cleaned it up in one pass over the carpeting. I never had to use the wand to edge clean the trip on the side walls, as this has great suction power to edge clean amazingly well. I even commented to my daughter how this worked better than my $500 Dyson! She proudly responded that they purchased this vacuum at WalMart for less than $100.00, and I was quite shocked to hear it. It’s rare these days to find a product that works as well as this Dyson does, at such a value price! I am actually considering storing my Dyson away and picking up the Hoover Mach 3 Cyclone Vacuum to replace it. I was very impressed with the job it did and the cleaning and suction power associated with the Hoover Mach 3.
