Lifetime Fitness is a new colossal fitness center that has just opened up next to Discover Mills Mall located in Lawrenceville, GA. Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better and with the influx of new fitness centers all over Georgia it’s sometimes hard to tell which ones will work for you and which ones will just waste your time. Hopefully I will shed some light on Lifetime Fitness by first describing what it does offer. This new fitness mega center has two stories and includes all of the standard things you have come to expect in a gym plus some. To name a few things, Lifetime has over four basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, racquetball courts, two indoor pools, two hot tubs, two saunas, a fully equipped cardio and weight lifting center, two restaurants including a bar, and a gymnastics center.
Within Lifetime there are machines for people looking for a serious workout. There are tons of options for cardiovascular training including treadmills, ellipticals, cycles, and even a new machine I had never seen before that resembled climbing an escalator. There are also plenty of strength training machines including both free weights and cable machines. One thing I didn’t see however, were a significant number of squat racks. This may be something they will need to fix in the future as it may be hard to work squats in during peak hours.
During my visits to Lifetime I was surprised to find it wasn’t that crowded. This may be due to me going later in the evening around 9pm on weekends and weeknights. However, even at peak hours the gym is massive enough that there shouldn’t be too many problems with sharing equipment. I have yet to hear from anyone else I know that has a membership that it was too crowded to get a workout in. As far as offering classes, Lifetime offers many classes such as rock climbing, group fitness classes, and swim classes although I have yet to take any.
There are three types of memberships that one can choose from. They are gold, platinum, and onyx with onyx being the highest. Onyx gives the buyer memberships to all of Lifetime’s locations across the U.S. All of the packages include a free towel, locker, and access to the racquetball courts and climbing walls. The major difference between the packages is the number of VIP guest packages per month each one receives. VIP guest packages allow you to bring a guest with you for free. Lifetime also offers package deals for people who are looking to join with others.
Overall I would highly recommend anyone looking for a gym to consider Lifetime Fitness. It contains all of the things anyone could ask for in a gym. For those looking to get a good hard workout in you will find Lifetime offers plenty of machines for training strength and endurance. For those looking to relax or have fun you will find Lifetime especially inviting with its hot tubs, saunas, and pools.
