Health: The small one ounce (28.4g) bag of Herr’s Snack Friez contains 150 calories. Each serving has 8 grams of fat, 1.5 grams of saturated fat and 0.5 grams of Trans fat. This snack food product does not have any cholesterol and minimal vitamins and minerals. Herr’s Snack Friez contain 330 milligrams of sodium and 16 grams of carbohydrates. After purchasing this product I became aware that it does not offer any nutritional benefits. However, there are dozens of other potato snack products that have more calories, fats and other unhealthy factors than Herr’s Snack Friez.
Quality: The regular version of Herr’s Snack Friez is labeled “Hot-Hot-Hot” on the front. There are other flavors that include Herr’s Cheddar Snack Friez and Herr’s Ketchup Snack Friez. I purchased the regular version under the impression that another popular snack company had redesigned their “hot fries” packaging. I later found out that Herr’s had released their own line of flavored snack fries, one of which I purchased. It would have helped for me to pay attention to the popular Herr’s logo before buying this product.
However, the word “hot” and “fries” tends to lend consumers toward imagining the Andy Capps or Tom’s brand since they are both popular. Herr’s Snack Friez are firm and do not crumble easily like other brands. That makes it easy to reduce the possibility of a mess when giving this snack to children. The seasoning on Herr’s Snack Friez has a reddish tint that will get on clothes or furniture if you are not paying attention. There is a small amount of fries in each bag but they are large enough to be satisfactory.
Price: Small 1 ounce bags of Herr’s Snack Friez are 35 cents each at many convenience stores. You can find larger bags of Herr’s Snack Friez in grocery stores for $1.99. Some stores may price the larger packages of this snack food up to $2.99. I also found a medium sized bag of Herr’s Snack Friez for 99 cents in one drugstore. Herr’s Snack Friez is pretty cheap to buy. They enable consumers to purchase snacks even on a low budget.
Taste Test: There is a hint of cheese flavor in this snack food product that is not desirable. Herr’s Snack Friez seasoning is not at all tasty. I purchased a few bags of this product and should have exchanged the unopened bags for another snack food. That is how bad Herr’s Snack Friez taste which does not make me want to purchase the other flavors. I offered the unopened bags to other people who did not want them either. However, I just left them at someone’s house where they would be up for grabs by anyone.
Verdict: Herr’s Snack Friez is inexpensive in the small sizes, which can make an affordable school lunch snack for children. It is when you purchase the largest size bags of these snack fries that your costs really start to add up. The small bags should be enough, especially when trying this snack food for the first time. It has a bit of an acquired taste and may not be worth purchasing on a frequent basis. I have yet to meet a child or adult who actually enjoys Herr’s Snack Friez. The Herr’s brand makes a lot of tasty and good quality snacks. Herr’s Snack Friez are just not one of them.
