Review of Whole Foods’ Organic Frozen Vegetables

Whole Foods’ 365 Everyday Value Organic Frozen Vegetables are a great value over the competitor’s organic vegetables. Generally you can pick up a package of 365 Everyday Value Frozen Vegetables for around $1.99 per package, whereas Cascadian Farms will generally run you $2.50 to $2.79 per package. I have used both, and I find the quality in both to be exactly equal.

Compared to non-organic frozen vegetables, however, they can seem a little pricey. In Wal-Mart, Great Value brand frozen vegetables typically cost anywhere between $.80 and $1.39 per package, depending on the type. However, since so many of the vegetables which are sold frozen, such as spinach, broccoli and sweet peppers, are at risk for passing along pesticides to consumers, buying organic is a good idea. And since frozen vegetables are so cheap, you can easily say that “twice nothing is still nothing.”

Whole Foods’ 365 Everyday Value Organic Frozen Vegetables come in several different varieties. There’s asparagus spears, whole leaf spinach, broccoli florets, mixed vegetables which contains corn, peas, diced carrots and cut green beans, green beans, peas and slivered carrots, and an Oriental stir-fry vegetable blend which contains a variety of vegetables including sweet bell peppers.

The selection of Whole Foods’ 365 Everyday Value Organic Frozen Vegetables is considerably more limited than non-organic frozen vegetables. For example, there is no cut spinach, and there is only one Oriental stir-fry blend, whereas Great Value brand has about five different Oriental stir-fry blends. However, it is worth a little bit of inconvenience to have the quality of organic produce, and generally I just mix the different packages together myself to get the blend I’m looking for. Hopefully in the future there will be more selections in Whole Foods’ organic frozen vegetable selection.

I generally microwave my 365 Everyday Value Organic Frozen Vegetables in a glass casserole dish, and serve them with pasta and pasta sauce, or stir fry them with 365 Everyday Value Organic tofu, or serve them atop a steaming hot vegetarian pizza. My favorite for topping pizza is the frozen spinach. I have to thaw it, squeeze out the extra liquid and chop it by hand before applying it to the top of the pizza, but once that’s done the pizza is like a little slice of heaven. Also consider using fresh organic produce from Whole Foods to top the pizza, such as fresh organic garlic and tomato slices.

365 Everyday Value Organic Frozen Vegetables are definitely worth the price. They will improve your health and your family’s health, and they will help make the planet a cleaner and healthier place to be.
