If you play your cards right, and get a little lucky, you can make a great deal off of selling Avon products.

There are two ways to become an Avon representative. The most popular way is to be recruited by another representative-or to seek out another representative wanting to become a representative. The other way is to go to www.avon.com , fill out the form, and wait for a representative (in my case, it was the district manager) to contact you-which is how I became a representative. Either way, you will have to meet with the representative who signs you up to get your startup kit, do some paperwork, and pay the $10 administrative fee.

In your startup kit, you are given 2 to 3 campaigns worth of catalogs, an order book, and other miscellaneous items which depend on who is signing you up. I received an Avon tote bag, and a package of samples.

To get customers, start with your family and friends. Family and friends have made up most of my sales. From them, go to you neighbors and let everyone in your neighborhood know that you are a representative. These ways are almost guaranteed to get you your first sales. Then move on to putting books in stores (if they allow you, never leave books in a store that hasn’t given you permission to do so yet.), on cars, leaving you business card on every cork board in town, etc. The forums on the Avon representative’s website has many people who can help give you ideas on getting more customers.

There are many different districts with their own district managers and different dates that you have to have your order submitted by.I have to submit by mail on Tuesday or by Internet on Thursday at noon. My orders ship Friday and I receive them on Monday. No matter where you live, your orders are submitted once every two weeks.

If your order is submitted on time and only goes to one address, shipping is free. I don’t know what shipping would cost if I were to ship to a different address or be late on my order, because I’ve never done these things.

When you get a new customer or have a great customer, you want to keep them happy with your service.Give customers a 10% discount on their first order over $25, or a free product. The most common free products are lip balms ($0.69- $0.99), minis (usually $0.99), or extra samples.

They also have many other things you can use in a small business like address stamps that you can sometimes get for free. You get your name, address, telephone number, email address and more printed on a full color card. There are many designs to choose from, I have the rose design. You have to buy at least one thing every three campaigns (6 weeks) If I don’t have an order , I order something like a lip balm. Just buying book counts as an order, but I never buy books anymore because I just wind up with a room full of unused catalogs and everyone I sell to can easily look at the catalog over the Internet and tell me what they want.

My Avon pitfalls are due to the large number of representatives in my area. I live in a town with a population of 3,000 and there are at least 5 representatives just in the elementary school!

Here’s the part that you really want to know about, the money.Representatives make 50% of every order over $50 in their first four campaigns. After that, you make:
$0-$24.99 = 0%
$25-$144.99 = 20%
$145-$284.99 = 30%
%285-$424.99 = 35%
$425-$899,99 = 40%
$900- $1,549.99 – 45%
$1550 and up = 50%

You also make $20 for each representative that you refer, and a bonus for how much each representative that you refer sells. When a new product comes out, you can pre-order them for a very low price- the more you buy, the cheaper they are. For each 5 of the new product that you buy, you get one free, and depending on what the product is, you can get free things like jewelery. There are rewards and trips that you can win if you are a high seller

Just like any business, there are risks, you can loose the money you put into the business, but Avon is usually a pretty safe bet.

If you have a real hard time with the selling, you can always just get discounts for yourself!
