2012 NFL Draft – Fantasy Football Rookie Analysis

Luke Kuechly, Michael Floyd, Stephen Hill

With every fantasy football fans’ attention focused on the NFL Draft right now, here is an analysis of the fantasy football outlook of the 2012 NFL Draft Rookies.

Updated: April 30, 2012

1st Round

# 1 – Andrew Luck – QB – Indianapolis Colts

A very intelligent and mature QB who is poised to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in the next 3 years. As a rookie in 2012, Luck could easily post similar stats to what Andy Dalton posted during his rookie season in 2011.

# 2 – Robert Griffin III – QB – Washington Redskins

All in all, Griffin will likely post better fantasy football stats as a rookie in 2012 than Andrew Luck. A fantasy ceiling much like the Cam Newton effect in 2011 with less rushing yards is definitely possible for Griffin as a rookie in 2012.

# 3 – Trent Richardson – RB – Cleveland Browns

Easily the best running back prospect entering the 2012 NFL draft, Richardson will have the opportunity to be a workhorse from day one in Cleveland. Touchdowns may not be easy to come by in 2012, but Richardson could easily finish as a top 15 fantasy football RB as a rookie in 2012.

# 5 – Justin Blackmon – WR – Jacksonville Jaguars

Considered to be the best WR prospect in the 2012 NFL draft, the Jaguars traded up to snag Blackmon, who should be a starter from week 1 in Jacksonville. Unfortunately until the Jaguars have reliable QB play, Blackmon’s stats and fantasy football potential will likely be limited in 2012.

# 8 – Ryan Tannehill – QB – Miami Dolphins

Miami finally got their potential franchise QB, as Tannehill will likely have an opportunity to claim the starting QB job in Miami at some point during his rookie season in 2012. However with the Dolphins lacking firepower in their offense, especially at WR, Tannehill’s stat potential will likely be very limited as a rookie in 2012 even if he takes over as the starter.
