Transforming existing windows into stained glass works of art is an easy craft project. Stained glass is the perfect way to create privacy on windows that look out onto neighboring homes, hide an unfortunate view, and add some color to your home décor. This project is perfect for windows built into your home or doors. You can also create stained glass on salvaged windows form the antique store or flea market.
To Transformed Your Windows into Stained Glass Art You Will Need:
Picture Molding
Stained Glass Paint
Paint Brushed
Epoxy Glue
To start this craft project you need to decide on a pattern. Your stained glass pattern will determine what stained glass paint colors you need to buy as well as how much picture molding you need.
Measure the window you are going to transform. Mark this space out on a piece of drawing paper and sketch out your design. If you have markers I suggest coloring in areas the colors you would like them to be. The more specific you are in the planning the less room for mistakes.
Once you have established your stained glass design you need to transfer it to your window. I like to tape the sketch to the back of the window show that it shows through the front. You can fill in just like a coloring book!
Painting the stained glass is the next step. them absolutely perfect. Use a natural bristle artist paintbrush to fill in your colors. Work up to the edges in each block of color. You will be covering the rough edges with picture molding, so you don’t have to make
Once your stained glass is completely painted you need to let it dry complete. While your paint is drying your can work on your picture molding.
Remove the sketch from the back of the window and due this to cut out your picture molding. You can use a miter box and hand saw to get the correct angles.
Once all of your molding is cut out you need to paint it. The lead in-between real stained glass can be black or silver. You could also paint your picture molding to match the frame of your window. For example if you have a white window sash, you may choose to carry this look on with white picture molding. This is a great way to make your stained glass look built in.
Once you picture molding and painted window has dried you can install it. Carefully apply your epoxy glue exactly where your picture molding will be attached to the window. Do not use too much glue because you do not want it to ooze out from under the molding when you press it on the window.
Tips:
-Remember your windows will have to open, so if they slide up and down, only do the window that doesn’t slide behind the other one.
-You can use a stick on lead instead of picture molding to separate your panes of stained glass.
