Travel to Hershey, Pennsylvania: Did Someone Say Chocolate?

Chocolate World, Hershey Pennsylvania, Hersheypark

If you’re a chocolate lover, and I mean a serious chocolate lover, then there is no better place on earth to venture to then the small town of Hershey, Pennsylvania. However, plan to drive, since the nearest airport in Harrisburg doesn’t offer a wide variety of airline services.

When I made my journey to Hershey, Pennsylvania it was by way of Baltimore, Maryland. After my short flight, I then rented a car and drove the additional 90 miles to reach my destination. I had thought that the drive might be at least partially entertaining; however, I quickly realized that the only route between Baltimore and Hershey was the scenic one.

When I arrived at my hotel, the Hershey Lodge, I was immediately welcomed with the overwhelming smell of chocolate everywhere. The lobby was rustically decorated, and comfortable sofas and chairs clustered in informal gathering places throughout the spacious room. I was checked in by a more than pleasant staff at the front desk and directed to my room.

My immediate take on the chocolate paradise was that it wasn’t going to be such a bad stay – but when I got to my room things changed completely.

The smell in the parking lot view hotel room was absolutely atrocious, almost as if I had been placed directly above the outlet to the sewer system. That, mixed with the almost sickening smell of chocolate was enough to make a person want to step outside just to catch their breath. I immediately called the front desk to state my complaint and was told that they would have no other rooms available until the next day.

Doomed to stay in the smelly room for at least one night, I decided to hold my breath and take it like a woman. It was then that I decided to unpack my laptop and hook into the Wi-Fi service that hotel boasted – the same Wi-Fi service that I was unable to connect to. After over an hour on the phone with technical support, and about to gag from the stench, I decided to give up trying to connect from my room and make my way back to the plush surroundings of the hotel lobby, where I was assured that I could get a connection without any trouble whatsoever. They were right, I did get a connection, and over the course of my stay I became more than grateful for the comfortable lobby furniture.

According to some of the other guests at Hershey Lodge, not every room was in the same condition as mine. In fact, every person I spoke too had nothing but positive remarks to say about the family friendly hotel.

For those people traveling to Hershey with small children, the Hershey Lodge has more than enough recreation options for them to enjoy their stay. With pools, tennis courts, and even a miniature golf course, kids are sure to have a fantastic time.

Outside of the hotel, the sights to be seen in Hershey are definitely a chocolate lovers dream. Whether you’re hanging out at Hersheypark with a giant walking Hershey’s Kiss, taking a tour through Hershey’s Chocolate World, enjoying the chocolate spa, or feasting on chocolate chicken, you are sure to satisfy whatever sweet tooth you have in your head.
