4 Easy Steps to Cure Chapped Lips

Chapped Lips

Chapped lips aren’t sexy, if you want people to focus on how sexy your lips are rather than how dry and flaky they look, read along to find out how you can give chapped lips the boot.

1. Wet Your Whistle

Your lips are made of fairly thin skin and it’s extremely easy for them to lose moisture. So at the slightest sign that you’re dehydrated your lips are going to be the first body part that looks dried out. If you want a smooth and soft pout make sure that you down glasses of water constantly throughout the day. The key is to do so before you get thirsty, because by the time your body signals to you that it’s thirsty by making your throat feel parched, it’s been already been requiring water for a few hours.

Once you feel quenched don’t ruin the results, avoid liquids that dehydrate you like alcohol and drinks that contain caffeine.

2. Don’t Lick Your Lips

Sometimes when your lips are chapped your first instinct is to lick your lips so that you can give them some moisture. While your saliva will make your lips look a bit better, it will only do so for about thirty seconds. After the saliva dries, it will dry your lips even further. If you aren’t able to find a lip balm, resist the urge to lick your lips and instead reach for water.

3. Exfoliate

When your lips are chapped and flaky piling on lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks are only going to make them look worst, so it’s best to start with a clean slate. It’s been recommended that the best way to exfoliate is to moisturize lips with a balm and then use a soft bristled toothbrush to rub the flakes away.

While this might work for some, it can leave others’ lips feeling even rougher and worse yet sore. The best solution is to moisturize lips with a balm, wait and allow it to absorb for five minutes. Then wet a towel with warm water and lightly buff the flakes away. Or you can just apply the balm before a warm shower, the humidity will help to soften your lips and then just rub your index finger gently across your lips until the dead layers of skin are peeled away. Just make sure that you aren’t hurting your lips, if you start to peel off living skin or you begin to bleed, stop.

4. Keep Your Lips Moisturized

This is the most obvious step for curing chapped lips. In order to keep your lips soft and sensual looking, it’s a must that you keep your lips moisturized, and to keep them moisturized often. Don’t settle for balms that don’t do the job even if it’s a best-selling product or it’s recomemended by all of the fashion magazines. Shop around until you can find a lip balm with an SPF that really leaves your lips feeling soft and healthy and re-apply it several times through-out the day, use a thicker product at night so that you can wake up with soft lips.

Also be sure to pick the right lip glosses and lipsticks. Some formulations can be drying or waxy, and others can be so goopy and thick that they prevent your lips from staying moisturized. For best results use products that are light and that are moisturizing, so that your lips can remain soft.
