DIY: How to Make Graduation Party Invitations

Graduation Party Invitations

Graduation time. It only comes once, and you want to make an impact. All of those parties out there, why should yours stand out? Your invitations are the “First impression” of your party. So make yours a good first impression. Make it stand out, make it fun. Here are a couple of ideas to make invitations that are a little bit different.

The first idea is less expensive, and quicker. The second is a little more expensive and time consuming.

1. Marbled cards

Supplies needed:

Card stock

Printer

Scissors or a paper cutter

Foam shaving cream

Food dye

A medium sized plate

A Popsicle stick

What to Do
Using a document program on your computer, type all of your party information (see below for specifics of the information) with the document split in half. That way, you can get two cards from each sheet of paper.

On one side of the card, have the party info, on the other side, put a neat clip art design if you want. There are many free sites out there if you just type “graduation clip art” into your search engine. Print the cards, then cut them apart, using scissors or paper cutter.

Squirt out shaving cream onto the plate, filling the plate. Place a few drops of food coloring randomly around the plates, and stir it so that they swirl. Use colors that go well together, or mean something to you (school colors, favorite colors, etc.) Lay your card into the shaving cream, making sure that the cream gets all over the outside. You can color both the inside and the outside if you want to, but do them one at a time. Once one side of the card is completely covered with shaving cream, take it out, and scrape the cream off with the Popsicle stick. You can put the scraped off cream back on the plate and continue using it until the colors mix together too much.

It will only take a short while for the cards to dry, and when they dry, they will have a smooth, silky feel to them. Then you can put your picture in them, and put the in envelopes (you can use this decorating method with the envelopes too.

2. Picture Frame cards.

Supplies needed:

Card stock

Photo corners (available where scrapbooking supplies are sold)

Graduation scrapbooking stickers

Lighter

1/2 in. Lace (any color you want. Can be school colors, simple white or cream, or a favorite color)

Glue that dries clear

A picture of you

What to Do:

As with the first project, type out your party information so that it will take up half a sheet of paper. Print it out, cut the invitations apart, and fold them in half.

Take a lighter, and very carefully (outdoors, or over something that is not flammable) burn the bottom edge of the front of the card. Burn it so that it is 1/4-1/2 in. shorter than the back of the card.

On the front of the card, place a scrapbook sticker if desired.

On the bottom of the back of the card (the part that you can see under the burn), glue a piece of lace the length of the card.

Open the card. The bottom half should have party details. Place photo corners on the top half. You can use 2-4 depending on what look you like the best. Insert a photo of yourself.

Party information:

You want the information in your card to be clear, and quick to read, but have enough details.

1. Have your name. People get a lot of invitations. It would be nice if they could remember whose was whose.

2. Who is invited. Is it the whole family? Only the kids? Only the parents?

3. The date of the party.

4. The location of the party. Add a map on the back, or on a separate slip of paper inside if you think it would be necessary.

5. Contact information. A phone number in case the map was necessary.

Enjoy making your invitations, and happy graduation. Congratulations!!!
