Easy to Crochet Carnation Pattern

Sweaters, lapels, hair clips, clippies, hair ties and floral arrangements are only a few locations where an easy to crochet carnation can call home. Add a wire floral stem to the bottom of the crocheted carnation and place it or several of them in a vase. Follow the patter to crochet a carnation that is approximately 4-inches in diameter and 2-inches tall using medium weight yarn.

Things You’ll Need:

Medium weight crochet cotton, knit-cro-cheen or pearl cotton
Size F/3.75mm crochet hook
Scissors
Large eyed needle

Crocheted Carnation Instructions:

Row 1 – Chain 2 stitches. Single crochet 9 stitches in the second chain from the hook. Slipstitch the last stitch to the first stitch in the row and in each row hereafter.

Row 2 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Complete 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch around for a total of 19 stitches.

Row 3 – Chain 5 stitches. Skip 4 stitches. Slipstitch in the next stitch. Repeat the pattern around for a total of four chain spaces. Join the last stitch to the first stitch in the row.

Row 4 – Chain 3 stitches. Complete 14 double crochet stitches in the first chain 5 loop of the previous row. Single crochet in the slipstitch. Double crochet 14 times in the next chain 5 loop then single crochet in the slipstitch. Repeat in the remaining two loops. Join.

Row 5 – Chain 2 stitches. Double crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Complete 2 double crochet stitches in the next 14 stitches. Single crochet in the next stitch. Complete 2 double crochet stitches in the next 15 stitches then single crochet in the next stitch – repeat around. Join the last stitch to the first stitch in the row.

Row 6 – Chain 3 stitches. Slipstitch in the next stitch. Repeat around. Join and finish.

Crocheted Leaf Instructions (Make 3):

Row 1 – Chain 2 stitches. Single crochet 3 times in the second chain from the crochet hook.

Row 2 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet twice in the first stitch, once in the second and twice in the last stitch for a total of 5 stitches.

Row 3 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet twice in the first stitch, once in the next three stitches and twice in the last stitch for a total of 7 stitches.

Row 4 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet twice in the first stitch, once in the next five stitches and twice in the last stitch for a total of 9 stitches.

Row 5 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in each stitch across.

Row 6 – Chain 1 stitch. Complete a decrease single crochet. Single crochet in the next five stitches. Complete a decrease single crochet to connect the last two stitches for a total of 7 stitches.

Row 7 – Chain 1 stitch. Complete a decrease single crochet. Single crochet in the next three stitches. Complete a decrease single crochet in the last two stitches for a total of 5 stitches.

Row 8 – Chain 1 stitch. Complete a decrease single crochet. Single crochet in the next stitch. Complete a decrease single crochet in the last two stitches for a total of 3 stitches. Finish off.

Tips: Crochet around a piece of floral wire by working the chain stitch around the wire. Connect the leaves to the stem then the stem to the carnation flower head.
