The Best Shampoo for Hair Loss

Going Bald

A few years ago I noticed I was getting gray hair. They were sprouting up like weeds in a garden and I decided they were not my friends, so I started dying it. Call me vain if you want, that’s o.k. It was on one of my hair dying marathons that I went to part my hair and noticed a bald spot the size of President Kennedy’s face on my head. I had always had an overabundance of hair, so you can imagine how I might have felt to see I was going bald! Off I went to the Doctor to see what was wrong.

At the Doctor’s office, he tested my thyroid (sometimes thyroid disorders can cause hair thinning and/or baldness) and after determining my thyroid was working alright, they injected steroids directly into my scalp where the baldness was. Those injections, also were not my friends, but I was willing to do anything to get my hair back. Two weeks later, the baldness proceeded to extend to other parts of my scalp until I thought I was going to look like a bald eagle without the feathers. Therefore, I sought the help of a hairdresser.

The hairdresser looked at my scalp and knew right away what was wrong. “Alopecia,” she said. She said that it might get worse before it got better, but that there was a shampoo that would help my hair grow back. She told me it was expensive, thirty dollars for a one-thousand milliliter bottle. I don’t know what was worse, losing my hair or the cost of getting it back. I decided my hair was more important. After all, what did I have to lose? Snow falling in a blizzard was comparable to the rate I was losing my hair. I decided to give Nioxin a try.

The first thing I noticed when I used it for the first time(and every time since) was the strong mint smell. It’s almost overpowering in it’s scent. I’ve heard some people say they like the smell, but I don’t. I continued to use it in spite of the scent. I was going to fight to get my lost troops back. I didn’t notice a difference for about a month, even though I looked at my head faithfully to see if I could find even one little glimmer of fuzz. And then a miracle happened: I noticed little sprouts of new hair cropping up in the bald areas! My hair was growing back! I continued to use it and over the next few months my hair continued to re-grow until it had all grown back. I was a believer!

One of the bad things about Nioxin though is, as I’ve already mentioned, is the cost. After I bought my initial bottle I did find they also have a one-hundred-fifty milliliter bottle for about eight dollars. I just figured if I was going to use this from now on I would get a better deal with the bigger bottle.

Nioxin comes in four main categories:

1. The Healthiest Looking Hair Possible. This is the largest category because it has all the shampoo and conditioners which includes eight different systems with four products in each. Personally, I just use the shampoo and conditioner and have had wonderful results.

2. Help To Repair Damaged Hair. This category has special treatments to repair damaged hair.

3. Volume, Thickness, and Styling. This category includes products that help to increase volume and extra thickness. It also has products that help protect the hair from heat treatments and to increase hair thickness.

4. Moisture, Shine and Styling. This line has more moisturizing products to make hair more shiny, and additional styling products.

The basis of Nioxin is a glyco-fused complex which is a blend of botanicals and herbs, contains UV protectants; and is designed to cleanse away toxins, residues and DHT(Dihydrotestosterone.) DHT is believed to be responsible for hair loss in some individuals. Nioxin also has chemicals as well, so people with sensitive scalps or skin should use this shampoo with caution as it has been known to cause rashes or scalp irritation.

My Conclusion I love this product because it works! I have talked to other Nioxin users who have tried everything to regain their hair and nothing works like this line of products. There is a little mint smell afterwards, but it doesn’t stay long. I would recommend this shampoo to anyone who wants to have thicker, re-grow hair or generally have hair in better condition.
