The Los Angeles Reptile Show

Reptile Care, Reptiles

The Los Angeles reptile show promises good fun for those enamored with scaly reptiles. Kids get a bit of education while concurrently marveling at the creatures that make mom shiver. Part of the L.A. Pet Fair, there are even pet adoptions available!

L.A. Pet Fair: Reptiles!

Rather than adding the reptile show onto the already scheduled L.A. Pet Fair and have the cute furry creatures steal the show, reptiles get top billing at their very own event. Scheduled for August 7th and 8th in 2010, the Reptile Super Show sets up shop at the Fairplex in Building 9.

The address for this venue is 1101 West McKinely Avenue in Pomona, 91768. Adults pay $12 per ticket; children 12 and under only pay $8 to get in. For the diehard reptiles fan who knows that one day is most certainly not sufficient to take an up close and personal look at all the scaly reptilians on display, a two-day pass is available for $20 or $12 respectively. Since the show opens from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a two-day pass sounds like a good idea.

What to See at the Los Angeles Reptile Show

Currently there are in excess of 200 vendors that committed to display their wares and reptiles. Turtles are always a big showstopper, but lizards and snakes do not trail far behind. Giving a nod to the amphibian set, frogs also make an appearance. Reptile accessories for proper care and feeding will be on sale; even the hobbyist who might want to branch off into breeding will find that there are some must-have gadgets on hand.

Show promoters promise that the “World’s Largest Reptile Show” will feature thousands of reptiles, supplies and much more. With more than 100,000 square feet of display space, it stands to reason that there will be plenty to see and do. (The event promoters promise “eggs hatching during the show!”) In fact, animal rescue organizations plan on attending and displaying some lovable reptiles eligible for pet adoptions.

Nuts and Bolts of Attending a Reptiles Exhibition

Let the parent be forewarned: there are some unwritten rules to consider when attending a reptile show. First and foremost: yes, there will be animal feedings. Although most snake displays shy away from placing live mice into the exhibits, there is the occasional retailer who has not gotten the message that sometimes less display is more. Let the squeamish attendee beware!

Moreover, it is virtually impossible for a child to resist the Siren son of a baby lizard, tiny snake or lovable turtle. The inevitable “can we get one” is sure to be heard numerous times and with pet adoptions possible, this may become an urgent mantra. Remember that some reptiles become rather large, in spite of their diminutive sizes at the beginning of life. Remember also that reptiles frequently have highly specialized dietary and temperature needs, and unless the parent is willing to pay for a proper habitat setup, it is best to look, but don’t bring them home.

With this in mind, the Los Angeles reptile show should be a blast!
