Cure Your Relentless Cough Naturally

Cough Suppressants, Coughing, Mucous

If you have an incessant cough, it seems there’s nothing you can do it to curb the impulse to hack and bark every 30 seconds. It’s embarrassing, it’s painful, and sometimes you can cough so hard you can hurt your back. Cold and cough remedies like cough drops or syrup, work for a few moments or hours to relieve the irritation, but they also often cause drowsiness and/or stomach upset and don’t work long-term. With most cough syrups being removed from the shelves in your local drugstores, the ones left just aren’t the mucous cleansing, cough suppressing wonders of their counterparts we need to stand in line for to get. Why don’t you save yourself the trouble and try these effective home remedies for relieving your cough at home instead?

Oddly enough, pepper is one of the best remedies for a cough. It doesn’t taste so great. but it works (and certainly can’t be any worse than those nasty cough syrups). One of the quickest ways to quell a cough is by taking a half lemon, and pouring black pepper powder (reg black pepper) and table salt on it to saturate it. While grimacing (ha ha) suck the lemon and inhale the combo of black pepper, salt and lemon juice and Voila! You’re puckering, but you’re not hacking anymore.

If this tactic is a bit too extreme for you (it works, but it’s a bit hardcore) there are more mild pepper treatments that work as well. Try this one, that eases your coughing overall and actually rids you of your coughing infliction in a few days entirely. Mix a gram of black pepper, long pepper (available in the spice section of your local grocer) and ginger powder each together. 3 times a day take a teaspoon of the powder mixture and mix it with a teaspoon of honey and eat it. This suppresses coughing and breaks up mucous, clearing the lungs and throat as well. Honey is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial and will help ease your swelling throat and fight infection causing your cough.

Added bonus- the above-mentioned recipe for cough can also be a once-a-day regime for boosting your metabolism for better calorie burning every day! Who doesn’t want that?!

Honey and lemon can also be used to ease the throat and fight infection causing cough. Make a lemon tea (fresh lemon or steeped tea bag) and add a teaspoon of honey to consume twice daily. Upon waking and prior to bed are best. This soothes the throat and honey and lemon both contain antibacterial properties to help you get over your coughing faster.

One of the tastiest and most effective cough suppressants and mucous expectorants is mixing honey with grape juice. Grapes are a natural expectorant and clears out the mucous, and once again the antibacterial properties of honey soothe the coughing urge and fight the infection. The combination of these two (a few teaspoons of honey per one cup grape juice, warm it up if you want to, it’s YUMMY) eases your coughing right away and eases the mucous out of your body so when you DO cough, it’s actually relieving you of that nasty mucous.

Eating garlic when you feel a cold or cough coming every day (take tablets) helps ward of the impending infection so you don’t even get sick. If you already have a cough garlic helps your body to get rid of it faster, naturally.
