Natural Cures for Diabetics: From Cinnamon to Aromatherapy

Diabetes seems to be a big problem these days as more and more Americans are being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Is insulin and prescription diabetic medication the only thing that will control diabetes? Proper diet and exercise will help but there are some natural remedies that can help you control your diabetes or even get rid of it all together.

Cinnamon: A study of sixty people with type 2 diabetes, were divided in six groups. The first three groups were given 1, 3, or 6 grams of cinnamon on a daily basis while the other three groups were given a placebo. After the cinnamon had been given daily for forty days, it was followed by twenty days without cinnamon. The cinnamon that was consumed for the forty days found that all three groups that were given cinnamon reduced their diabetic numbers. There were no changes in the placebo group. Cinnamon is tasty as well as can be substituted for sugar on cereal.

Chromium: It’s has been found that most diabetics don’t have enough chromium in their bodies. Chromium improves glucose tolerance and can balance out blood sugar levels. The recommended daily dose is up to 1,000 mcg.

Essential Fatty Acids: Take a fish oil supplement as well as 1,500 mg of evening primrose oil daily. Essential Fatty Acids help in proper insulin function and they also help with nerve health which is important in a diabetic.

Psyllium: Psyllium has been known to reduce blood sugar levels. It’s a very good source of fiber and can be found in the fiber section of your grocery store. Take up to 5 grams daily.

Garlic: Garlic stabilizes blood sugar and helps reduce your risk of heart disease and other circulatory problems by improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure. You should take 300 to 450 mg twice a day.

Fenugreek: This herb is a blood sugar stabilizer. Take 15 to 50 grams daily of this herb.

Curry Leaves: Curry leaves are believed to cure diabetes. You eat ten matured curry leaves each morning for about three months. This particularly works on the person who is diabetic from weight gain.

Bitter Gourd: Also known as Karela contains plant insulin. It is found to work well with eliminating diabetes. You should take 2 ounces two times a day on an empty stomach or take bitter gourd powder. (1 tsp. daily on an empty stomach)

Chamomile and peppermint tea: It has been known that diabetics, when under stress, cause blood sugars to go chaotic. By reducing stress, you can prevent your numbers from being unstable. Chamomile and peppermint tea are both great calming teas to reduce stress.

Aromatherapy: Find a relaxing scent to reduce your stress. Jasmine, lavender, or rose are just a few oils that will help you to relax.

These are just a few natural remedies to either control or help rid your body of diabetes. And make sure before trying any alternative remedy consult your doctor to make sure it is safe for you.
