Relocating to Raleigh North Carolina?

Located in the center of North Carolina, the capital city of Raleigh is a convenient place to live for the young and old alike. Raleigh’s strong economy, great schools, excellent healthcare facilities, fantastic climate and old-fashioned southern charm have helped to make this one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. With only a two-hour drive to the beach or the mountains, and plenty of lakes and golf courses within, living in Raleigh offers the best of all worlds.

Education and Employment

The Wake county school district, which includes Raleigh was rated number 3 for big cities in the United States by Forbes magazine in February of 2004. Ninety-two percent of the adults living in the area have graduated with a high school diploma and nearly half of those have gone on to get their bachelor’s degree. With so many universities and colleges nearby, Raleigh has become known as a place to get a great education. And after they learn, many of the scholars stay, which leads to a well-educated community of people with higher earning power. The Research Triangle Park, home to many large companies including IBM, Nortel Networks and Cisco is known as “Silicon Valley East,” and is at least partially responsible for Raleigh’s unemployment rate being well below the national average. Business magazine recently named Raleigh the number one Hottest Job Market.

Entertainment and Recreation

Downtown Raleigh is a cultural hub due to its many museums, The BTI Center for the Performing Arts, where you can see touring Broadway plays, ballet and local entertainment, and the Meymandi Concert Hall, home of the North Carolina Symphony. The nightlife will match any big city in the nation for music and dancing. First Friday, is a once-a-month, citywide celebration that shouldn’t be missed.

The RBC Center, located in Raleigh, is the home of the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team and the NCSU Wolfpack men’s basketball team. The sports arena also hosts a variety of other types of entertainment throughout the year such as the circus, concerts and shows.

The North Carolina State Fairground is located in Raleigh where once a year for ten days, the State Fair is held. During the rest of the year there is a huge flea market in its place, every weekend where you can find all sorts of things both new and used. For farm fresh fruits and vegetables you can visit the Raleigh Farmers Market which is open year round and almost every day.

The restaurants in Raleigh offer up flavors from around the world including, French, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Mediterranean and good old fashioned American. You can find great burgers, pizza, seafood, steaks or your choice of two different types of barbeque cooking (Carolina style, using lots of vinegar or Texas style, using lots of sauce) on almost every street. Vegetarian? They’ve got you covered too.

With only a two-hour drive to the pristine beaches at Wrightsville, NC or a two hour dive to the mountains, Raleigh is a haven for the lovers of either sea or ski. There are so many golf courses, shopping centers, lakes, parks, playgrounds and green ways that you’ll never have time to be bored.

Housing for the Young and Old

If you love city life, Downtown Raleigh is the place for you but if you prefer a quieter environment, the suburbs of Raleigh, with its more country style of living may be more your cup of tea.

You can choose a family oriented subdivision or a quiet, tree lined community, an apartment, townhouse or private home. There are also many top-quality retirement communities located in Raleigh to provide seniors with a great place to live that includes comfort, recreation and medical attention.

No matter where you live in Raleigh you are sure to be conveniently located to get to the places that you need to go. There is an abundance of restaurants, shopping centers, medical facilities, and places to find entertainment, seemingly on every corner.

Climate

Although you technically get the advantages of having four seasons during the year, the climate in Raleigh is mild. The temperature rarely drops below 30 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter, and although the summers can be hot, the temperature usually peaks at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit on the hottest days. When it snows, and it does occasionally, the average snowfall amount is approximately two to three inches.

Southern Charm

Although Raleigh is considered a big city, the people are friendly and courteous. It’s not surprising to get a wave or a nod from almost everyone you meet there. There is a diverse mixture of cultures and people who have relocated to Raleigh from all corners of the world and yet there is a feeling of brotherly love everywhere you go.

Raleigh is a great place to visit and an even better place to live. The young will get a good education, wonderful job opportunities and recreation, the old will find a great place to retire with a mild climate and terrific medical facilities all tied up into one city with a charming atmosphere for all to enjoy.
