Choosing the Right Bangs for Your Face Shape

Bangs, Round Face

One of the hottest hairstyles on the runways and red carpets the world over right now are bangs. Worn with both shorter and long hair styles, bangs are popping up on the faces of every model and starlet out there and can indeed be a very flattering style for the rest of us as well.

Bangs are not only stylish and very much “in” right now, but they are also a wonderful way to update your look as well as help hide small forehead lines and accentuate your eyes. The only trick with bangs that you need to be careful of, is to make sure you end up with the right bangs for your face shape. What works well for an oval shaped face, may not work for a round face and what can flatter a heart shaped face could end up looking dated or unflattering on someone with a more square face.

While your hairstylist is the best person to talk to regarding what type of bang works best for your face shape, it is always a great idea to go in to your next hair appointment knowing what will work best for you. Here are a few helpful tips that will help you know what works best for your face shape and will help you decide if bangs are right for you.

There are several common face shapes, and these include oval, heart-shaped, square, and round. The oval shaped face is considered the most common and the easiest to create a hairstyle around. The reason for this being, that oval shaped faces tend to be able to wear any hairstyle well. Bangs, no bangs, long or short, an oval face will generally carry the style off well. The best bang styles for an oval face are pretty any or all of them. Side swept bangs, short choppy bangs, eyebrow skimming blunt bangs, they will all work beautifully on an oval face.

For faces that are more heart-shaped, the bangs that will compliment your features best will be longer, blunt cut bangs which help to even out the wider top portion of the face with the narrower bottom half. Square faces benefit most from a longer sideswept bang. This type of bang is softer and more feminine and helps to soften the stronger features and jawline of a square face.

For a face that is rounder, the bangs that are most flattering tend to be longer and feathered with the sides reaching down towards the cheekbones. This helps to de-emphasize round cheeks, giving the face a leaner more chiseled appearance.

All in all, every face type has a bang style that works best for it. Bangs are a hot style and very much in for this season and several to come, therefore choosing the style that best compliments your face shape will leave you looking like a million bucks and most definitely red carpet worthy.
