Kroger’s Grocery Store: Where Has the Great Customer Service Gone?

Last week I walked into the Kroger’s Grocery Store located at 1200 East Bristol Road in Burton Michigan. It had been quite a while since I had been to a Kroger as my small town has a local grocery store so we don’t venture out of that area much. I noticed when I walked in not one of the four cashiers that were talking even looked my way let alone spoke a word of greeting. Giving them the benefit that maybe they really didn’t see me I grabbed a grocery cart and moved on.

I walked up and down all the isle looking at the deals, comparing prices and matching items with the coupons I had. I passed by quite a few employees, some who were hard at work and others who were carrying on conversations with other employees. Not once was I spoken too, no one asked me if I was finding everything I wanted, no one even smiled in my direction. I was even in an isle struggling to reach something off the top shelf and a young male employee pasted me by.

I went to the deli to have some turkey lunch meat cut to go with my other items I was picking up, but after standing there for five minutes I had to go to the service desk to ask for some assistance. When I walked up to the service desk again no one even acknowledge I was there until I spoke to them. I asked for assistance in the deli and was told the lady who was working that department was on break. Ummm excuse me if I’m wrong but I don’t care if she is on break I as the customer was in need of assistance and I would think they would at the very least call someone to come help me.

So I decided since I couldn’t purchase the deli meat I had originally come in for I was done shopping and went to get in line to check out. There of course was only two cashiers and about ten customers wanting to check out. Needless to say I waited in line for over ten minutes before I finally got to the front of the line. Again, not much to my surprise, the cashier spoke to me once with the words your total is $22.67 and that was it. No greeting, no have a nice day, nothing just the total. She was too busy flirting with the manager, yes the manager was standing right there, for either of them to even tell me to have a nice day.

My question is Kroger what happened to your customer service? It had been a while since I had been to visit a Kroger store before this visit and I can honestly say that it will be even longer before I set foot in this store again.
