The Assault on Cap’n Crunch Cereal

Pepsico

The local news aired a story about Cap’n Crunch and that took me back to my childhood. I understand from the story that Cap’n Crunch will still be sold, but there would not be any advertising campaigns for the cereal. There is speculation that pressure from the White House and First Lady Michelle Obama’s obesity campaign had something to do with the move.

I ate Cap’n Crunch regularly as a kid and for many years, it was a tradition for me to buy the Christmas Crunch. It was a sweet and delicious time. I also looked forward to the games on the box. I wish Cap’n Crunch didn’t taste so good, but it does. A couple months ago, I noticed Cap’n Crunch everywhere I went and found myself with a serious craving for the stuff. I decided I needed to give in to this for old time’s sake. I found a small box of Cap’n Crunch to minimize the badness. It still tasted just as good as I remember. I got it out of my system for now, but I never know when it will return so I guess I am glad to hear it will not being going anywhere for now.

Cap’n Crunch does not appear on the Quaker Oats site or the PepsiCo website. It seems that Cap’n Crunch is no longer being marketed to children. One serving of the cereal has 12 grams of sugar, which is said to be half the daily-recommended amount. This nutrition fact doesn’t bode well for the cereal. I am all for fighting obesity in this country and for children growing up with a healthier diet, but upon hearing the story, I found myself nostalgic about my Cap’n Crunch.

Cap’n Crunch does now have a Facebook page that is apparently geared toward adult consumers. I guess this is the place to keep up with all things Cap’n Crunch. It also has a Twitter account as well. Are you a fan of Cap’n Crunch? Does it make you nostalgic? Please comment below.
