Best Nightlife in Wilmington, NC

70s Style, Wilmington Nc

Wilmington is home to a few colleges and pristine tourist-attracting beaches. So, you know what that means? Wilmington is FULL of great nightlife! Two of the most popular hotspots include RumRunners and Rox. These two downtown Wilmington bars feature excellent specials and dancing to today’s top music hits. Another great feature is that they are within easy stumbling, I mean, walking distance from each other. If you’re looking to just hang out or maybe dance the night away instead, RumRunners and Rox has what you are looking for.

RumRunners is the city’s dueling piano bar. They have great drink specials, delicious food (voted best wings in 2004), and dueling pianos playing most of the night. Like most of the better bars, RumRunners is located in the heart of downtown Wilmington on North Front Street. They welcome everyone between ages 21 to 100. RumRunners has two bars inside, a main one and a tiki bar. Some of the great drink features include ladies getting in free on Thursdays through Sundays, college nights on Wednesdays with $.75 well drinks, and Thursday nights $4 premium liquor drinks, $1 Domestics, and $2 shots. On Friday and Saturday nights, the two pianos start playing at 8pm. There are also $5.00 Party Pitchers, $3.00 So-Co shots on Friday, and $5 glasses of wine on Saturdays. Sunday nights are “service industry” nights with $2 being the cost of every drink.

Upcoming events include the World Famous Dueling Piano Show beginning at 9:30pm on Wednesdays and 8pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and dancing on Thursdays and Sundays beginning at 11pm.

Rum Runners also accepts reservations for parties and events. RumRunners is closed on Monday and Tuesdays, but open for lunch on Wednesday through Friday in addition to their night hours.

Rox is Wilmington’s self-proclaimed “premier club for dance and live music.” It is located on Market Street downtown. They open nightly at 9:30 and don’t close until 2:30am. Every Thursday night is college night at Rox. Ladies wearing a skirt get in free, and anyone else with a college ID gets in for $5. They have $2 tube shots, $2 Martinis, and penny 16oz Bud Light draft. Friday night is exclusively ladies night, which means all ladies 21 and older get in free. Otherwise it costs $2.00 to enter. But that’s not bad considering drink specials on Friday include $2 Coronas, Budweiser, and Amaretto Sours. Saturday night is the busiest day of the week. DJ Time plays all the top hits and keeps the dance floor hot.

Rox’s On The Rocks Retro Lounge is also open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with live music. Monday is Rootsoul Project Day with penny draft and $3 flavored vodka. Tuesday features Rogersville Road with $3 Jack Daniels, $1 Blue Moon, and $3 Sex on Beach. Wednesday includes Medusa Stone with $3 Jager & Rockstar, $2 Rum & Coke, and $1 Buds. If you loved the 70s, you’ll love the Retro Lounge upstairs. It is decorated with yellow retro-styled pictures on the red walls as well as red leather and other 70s style chairs to sit in. There’s also pool tables for you to enjoy. On The Rocks has a very laid back atmosphere in which to relax.

During the year there is always special events being held at Rox such as Bikini Contests and their recent tribute concert to AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.
