Eddie Murphy’s Two-Week ‘Marriage’ to Tracey Edmonds is Over

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy’s two-week ‘marriage’ to Tracey Edmonds is over: “If you wanna be my lover” is definitely not the tune that actor, Eddie Murphy, is singing. After a curt, two week stint, his marriage to film producer, Tracey Edmonds, is done.

The pair had a “ceremonial” wedding on the tropical island of Bora Bora on New Year’s day, but apparently, the ‘marriage’ was neither legal or binding, hence, no messy divorce.

As noted by abc.com, the pair “have decided to remain friends.”

The “Nutty Professor” star was engaged to Edmonds in July of 2007. Whether this means that the ‘marriage’ was merely a show of affection, or if they truly planned to get married later on, no one knows. Edmonds might have tuned into Murphy’s past relations and decided to call it quits. Murphy’s ex, Mel. B of the Spice Girls, may have been the main factor in the couple’s break up; well, that or the love child that he and Mel.B share.

The whole love child/divorce phenomenon is nothing new to Hollywood.

Remember Britney? Yeah, even though she and Kevin Federline cited “irreconcilable differences” (msnbc.com) as the reason for divorce, Kevin’s relations with ex. Shar Jackson may have led to the final nail in the Federline/Spears coffin. Numerous pictures of Britney with Federline’s children (by Shar) circulated tabloid magazines during their engagement, but this may have been a ploy to keep up appearances. Obviously, it didn’t work…oops!

Yet, there have been other marriages that have survived the love child/divorce curse. Rocker, Gwen Stefani and (equally rocking) husband, Gavin Rosdale, have also faced the pains of a love child. Rosdale (who has a biological child, Kingston, with Stefani) had a love tryst with Pearl Lowe back in the 80’s. So why have Rosdale and Stefani remained happy in their matrimony? Simple, he never cheated on her, a fact that the afore-mentioned bachelors can’t really claim.
