Craigslist Killer Movie Premiere’s Tonight

Lifetime is presenting The Craigslist Killer movie tonight at 9/8c. Everyone who wasn’t living under a rock for the past few years knows who the Craigslist Killer is. Back in 2009, Phillip Markoff was charged with the armed robbery and murder of Julissa Brisman in a Boston hotel on April 14, 2009, and two other armed robberies. The media have referred to Markoff as the Craigslist Killer because Markoff was alleged to have found his victims through ads they had placed on Craigslist offering erotic services. If there’s only one thing people have learned after this case went public, its that you just never know who is on the other side of that keyboard.

Leave it to Lifetime to make a movie about the media sensation. Jake McDorman plays the role of the Craigslist Killer Phillip Markoff, supported by Agnes Bruckner who plays Markoff’s fiancee Megan McAllister and Billy Baldwin who is Detective Bennett. The Craigslist Killer Movie documents this true story with the help of veteran crime journalist Michelle McPhee, writer of A Date with Death, which gave a glimpse into the life of the famed Craigslist Killer.

The Craigslist Killer was suspected in three robberies, two taking place in Boston, and the other in Rhode Island. On Friday, April 10, 2009, a paid escort by the name of Trisha Leffler was bound and robbed at gunpoint. Then on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, Julissa Brisman was found dead due to homicide. Finally, on Thursday, April 16, 2009, an exotic dancer was the victim of an attempted robbery. Law enforcement officials believed that all three were committed by the same individual, the Craigslist Killer, due to the closely spaced timing and similarities.

Markoff maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. A grand jury indicted Markoff for first-degree murder, and armed robbery, as well as other charges. In a turn of events on August 15, 2010, the Suffolk County Sheriff reported that the Craigslist Killer Markoff died of an apparent suicide in Boston’s Nashua Street Jail.

Have you bought off of Craigslist since the media sensation of the Craigslist Killer? I know many have with no problems whatsoever, but is it worth it? Or, was it just a fluke? Please feel free to comment and share your thoughts.
