25 Wonderful Wedding Reception Songs

Inaugural Ball

Once your magical wedding ceremony is over, it’s party time! Guests will be heading to your wedding reception dressed to impress and ready to get down on the dance floor. So keep things moving and grooving with these 25 great wedding reception songs that are a perfect mix of sexy and sweet:

Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton – Every bride wants to be told how gorgeous they look on their wedding day, and Eric Clapton knows how to word the complement right.

Brick House by Commodores – What is it about this song that gets everyone on the dance floor? Women love to envision themselves as powerful brick fortresses, apparently, so men better watch out when this song is played.

I’ve Been Loving You Too Long by Otis Redding – This is one of the sweetest songs you could play at your wedding reception. If you’re the groom-to-be, you must play this song for your new bride!

Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard – This is one of the few rock songs that women love to dance to. Play it at your wedding reception, and have fun giggling at your guests’ atrocious attempts at dancing to it.

Your Song by Elton John – Everyone has to have a song, and this one is perfectly titled. So let her tell everybody that this is her song, and enjoy dancing to this classic.

Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot – This classic 90’s song is always good for a laugh. Just picture everyone in their formal wear trying to shake their booties to it.

Baby I Love Your Way by Peter Frampton – If you love ‘Family Guy’, you have to play this song at your wedding reception; it’s Peter and Lois’ song on the show. It’s also my and my husband’s song, so I had to put it on this list.

White Wedding by Billy Idol – This 80’s song may be difficult to dance to, but it is an essential for a nice white wedding day.

Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye – You may want to save this sexy song for the end of your wedding reception when you’re about to head off to your honeymoon.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge – The whole family is together, so don’t just celebrate your new family; let everyone else know they’re appreciated, too.

Feel Like Makin’ Love by Bad Company – This is the Southern version of Let’s Get It On, and another song that’s perfect to listen to before you leave in your limo.

Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer – Hey, at least it’s a healthy addiction. Bring some 80’s fun to your wedding with this sexy song and ride your wedding reception high as long as you can.

At Last by Etta James – If you’re a fan of Barack and Michelle Obama, you might want to play this romantic song that they danced to at an inaugural ball at your wedding reception. Of course Beyonce sang it there; Etta hated it; and she ripped into Beyonce and the President, but it’s really a sweet song about love, so take it at face value and enjoy it (and Etta needs to do the same!).

(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty by KC and the Sunshine Band – This song is like an early version of Baby Got Back, and even though it’s from the 70’s, it’s just as fun to dance to today.

Into the Mystic by Van Morrison – If you’re Irish, you have to play this song at your wedding reception, and if you’re not, well, play it anyway! It’s an amazing, romantic, magical song that is perfect for a pair of dreamers.

Kiss by Prince – You’ve just experienced the most memorable kiss of your life, so top it off with this sexy song and do a little dirty dancing with your own Prince.

Stand By Me by Ben E. King – Is it overplayed? Yes, but it still has meaning for those who listen to the words and really feel them.

Whatta Man by Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue – There are a lot of songs on this list meant for sexy women, so here’s one for the men (and your man, in particular).

Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis – If you just play one Elvis song at your wedding, make it this one. It’s a timeless love song, and many women have fallen in love listening to Elvis’ voice.

Like a Virgin by Madonna – You have to play this one just for the shock value (it’s either true or ironic).

Earth Angel by The Penguins – It may be an old song, but it was worth reviving in the 80’s for ‘Back to the Future’, and it’s still powerful today.

YMCA by The Village People – It’s a weird song for a wedding with a male/female couple, but this gay anthem is played at parties everywhere, from teen dances to wedding receptions. Why? Because it’s just so much fun (and so easy) to do the dance that goes with it!

Something by The Beatles – This is one of The Beatles greatest love songs, and it has a touch of truth to it, something every marriage needs.

You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC – Here’s another one for Southern couples! Comparing a woman to an engine may be a little odd, but apparently women don’t mind at all, because they love trying to dance to this crazy ditty.

Lady by Little River Band – It’s a song about a woman looking gorgeous on the dance floor and the music is incredible, so this is a great song to dedicate to the bride.

I know a lot of these songs are your average wedding reception fare, but they’re so popular at weddings because everyone loves them. I’ve tried to throw in a few more original choices, however, to make your wedding reception unique. So whether you like to get down and dirty or dance nice and slow, there’s sure to be a few songs on this list that will make your wedding reception a memorable one.
