Killer Vegetable Juice Recipes

I have been juicing off and on for about 15 years. I started out with a cheap Huntington Beach model. I now have a high powered juicer/blender that is easy to use and clean. You don’t have to have a fancy juicer to start juicing. You only need a juicer that works. I would actually recommend something cheaper at first to see if you are really going to be committed to the juicing lifestyle.

I juice, because in my opinion, it’s the best way to get in your daily servings of vegetables. It’s highly concentrated, has lots of fiber to keep you moving regularly, and juicing retains a lot of the vitamins and minerals found in the peel that are lost if you peel or cook your veggies.

I have tried tons of recipes, and I have some very picky taste testers. My husband is the pickiest of them all. Some recipes have been yummy. Some… well… let’s say… not so yummy. Here are some of my family’s favorite vegetable juice recipes. These are the ones they ask for over and over again. Now, I must add that my kids were 3, 2, and newborn when we first started juicing, so these have been tested on toddlers. They are now 18, 17, and 15, and they still love these combinations of vegetables.

Carrot, Apple, and Celery Juice

I love this one because it is vitamin rich and full of fiber. Plus, it kind of has that sweet, salty taste I really enjoy.

1 Carrot~ I leave the peel on all my fruits and veggies when possible. Depending on the juicer, you may or may not need to cut your carrots. I usually cut the tops off, especially if you are using non-organic produce. I was told that’s where the pesticides stay when they are sprayed. Don’t know for sure if that’s true, but I say better safe than sorry.

1 Apple~ You can use any variety you’d like. My favorite apples are the Honey Crisp variety. They are crunchy and have a nice sweet, tart flavor. They are slightly more expensive, so if you are making juice for a lot of people I would use a less expensive variety. I also, cut the apples in quarters. It’s easier to drop in most machines. I don’t peel or core the apples. I juice them whole.

1 Stalk of Celery~ You don’t have to add the celery if you don’t want to. My husband doesn’t care for celery… So I don’t add it to his drink. I like the saltiness of the celery, so I add it to mine.

Handful of Ice(optional) ~ My husband likes his cold... I don’t.. I like mine at room temp. Also, I would only use ice if you have one of those juicer/blender combos.

This is for one serving of juice. It will fill a tall glass, so don’t be surprised if your small cup starts to overflow. If you need to make more than one glass, make them one glass at a time, following that order. You really don’t want more apples in one or less carrots in each glass. I guess it doesn’t matter that much, but it won’t taste the same.

Here’s another recipe my family absolutely loves.

This recipe has a high yield because you use more vegetables, so this one is great for the family. If this is for one serving, use half or less of each veggie listed.

2 Tomatoes~ I try to use those cluster tomatoes when possible. They are the best store bought tomatoes I’ve tasted. Of course, homegrown are the best, but hard to come by at certain times of the year. Going organic on tomatoes is supposed to be the best for you.

½ Bunch of Spinach~ Spinach is rich in vitamins and minerals like iron. This is a fantastic way to get your kids to eat spinach. (They won’t even know it’s in there) (insert evil laugh)

1 Carrot~ They add some sweetness to the blend. Kid’s love that. I suppose most adults do too…

A Couple of Sprigs of Parsley~ It’s supposed to sweeten the breath and be a natural diuretic. That means… it’ll make you pee a lot. That’s a good thing.

A Couple of Sprigs of Cilantro~ I love cilantro. It has a marvelous aroma, and adds some tanginess.

½ Bell Pepper~ You can use any variety, or you can mix them. I like red, yellow, and orange. You can use just green ones if you’d like. It’s up to you. Make it your own.

These are some other things you can add to your drink. I like it, but some of my family members don’t (my husband).

1 pinch of chopped onion~ I like to add red onion

1 one clove of garlic

1 stalk of celery

Ice~ I don’t like it cold, but some people do. It does add to the volume, so make sure you have enough room in your glass.

I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as we do. You can adjust them to fit your tastes. That’s what we have done. Share them with your friends. Introduce them to the wonderful benefits of juicing.
