Technology May Replace Mold Remediation

Mold Remediation, Mold Removal, Mycotoxins, Remediation, Toxic Mold

Mold is rapidly becoming a big headline and seems to affect more of the general population than did Asbestos. The problem is construction materials that became common in the 1970’s and our almost air tight houses. For those who have been affected by mold in their home, the financial burden can be devastating, mold remediation for a small house can cost as much as $70,000, for larger houses it can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A new step is being taken now in elimination and prevention by way of a fumigation process. St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard California recently shut down for a fumigation process using Chlorine Dioxide at a cost of 24 million dollars. Today however, there may be a new break in mold removal.

Global Ecotek, LLC has developed a process called CIMR, (pronounced simmer), that creates Hydrogen Peroxide from the humidity and Oxygen in the air. It produces hydrogen Peroxide at a level 1/50th the amount deemed a safe level, which means people can still inhabit the building, and the device can run 24/7. The original purpose of this technology was for killing bacteria in hospitals, but it had new found uses when they discovered a patch of black mold that had turned to dust. My family, being victims of Toxic Mold exposure ourselves, are elated at the implications of such a device.

I just spoke with George Kuhn of Global Ecotek this morning and questioned him on the various type of mold it would kill, and he said, “We have tried this on several varieties of mold from the heartiest molds on down, and it has been effective on all types they have tested.” This is great news for thousands of people across the country that are suffering from Toxic mold sensitivity.

Mr. Kuhn also said in case of basements where the dampness often causes mold problems, they may suggest leaving the house and running the system at a higher than normal level to kill the mold more rapidly, then scraping the walls and cleaning up the residue using a Hepa Vacuum. Once the mold issue is under control, a unit can be ran in the living quarters at the normal levels and be lived in normally. Hydrogen Peroxide like Ozone, ions, and water, have charged particles which will attach to the mold spores like magnets, but instead of sticking them to the walls like Ionic air cleaners do, it kills the spores. At normal levels Mr. Kuhn said it takes about 21 days to kill the mold colonies.

The reason for vacuuming up the residue is while the mold itself is being killed, the mycotoxins, (Biotoxic chemicals), the mold creates is not immediately destroyed. This being the case, while it may not be the perfect solution, it is a big start in the right direction, and killing the mold that can continually produce mycotoxins will stop the production.

Another great feature is they have units for anything from a small house to a 66 story building, and the cost is the real bonus. A home unit to cover a 1500 sq. ft. Home can be purchased from Global Ecotek for about $400, and it has one part that needs to be replaced every 33 months, (2 years and 9 months), at a cost of about $100. When you compare this to the cost of mold remediation practices used today, it really makes you turn your head.

Also unlike many other such devices out there, Global Ecotek told me their machine creates hydrogen peroxide without producing Ozone in the process. This is a bonus as well since Hydrogen Peroxide and Ozone will combine to make Oxygen and water molecules. Another nice feature about Hydrogen Peroxide is the fact that it is relatively unstable and will return to the water from which it originated, not increasing the humidity level since the hydrogen Peroxide came from that humidity to begin with. It has been tested in humidity levels of as low as 17%, making it viable solution in most regions of the country.

Mr. Kuhn also informed me that one of their units has been in operation in a Denver hospital for about 2 years now and has eliminated the bacterial infections it was designed for, and this is also a point of great excitement for Global Ecotek, and should be for all of us who live in energy efficient homes. Global Ecotek has been found to be effective against Viral, Bacterial, and Mold.
