What exactly is a Vision Board..?
Quite simply put, a Vision Board is a collage of images and words that represent the things you wish to attract into your life. Traditionally they have been made out of poster board, cork board or similar material and then filled with pictures, words and phrases either taken from other sources (magazines, newspapers, etc) or self-made elements. The main idea here is that by surrounding yourself with these images that represent your heart’s desire, and by taking a little time to focus your attention on these images, you are then intentionally putting yourself in vibrational harmony with your desire, thus opening the door to allow these things to come into your life more easily and readily.
Is it really as easy as all that? In a word, yes! And by the time you finish reading this article, you should have a very firm idea on how to take this tool and use it to work for you in manifesting your deepest desires.
Before you Begin…
This article assumes that you already know a little bit about the principles behind the Law of Attraction and how it works. The Law of Attraction merely states that you attract whatever it is to which you give the most attention. The bad thing is the law is working in your life whether you want it to or not, whether you think about it or not, whether you believe it or not. The good thing is… the law is working in your life whether you want it or not, whether you think about it or not, whether you believe it or not! Most of the time, however, this law is operating in your life by default, while you are not conscious of it. Using a Vision Board, on the other hand, is one tool of many to assist you in taking a more deliberate and active participation in the Law of Attraction’s operation in your life. If you are not familiar with the Law of Attraction, then I highly suggest you start by doing a little research on this amazing, unique and fundamental law and how it works. It will greatly enhance your use of this Vision Board as the effective tool for which it is intended.
Build a Visual Power Tool!
One of the very best aspects of the Vision Board is that it should not, and does not, require much at all in the way of money. This is a fun, low-cost, personal and creative way to make something for yourself that, if used properly, can and will give back to you many, many times over! You want to start by finding yourself a board base. This can be a standard piece of white or colored poster paper, a foam board, a cork board, cardboard – even a few pieces of construction paper, scrap-booking paper or printer paper can work. Be resourceful. Be creative! Remember that this board is for you and you alone, so make it personal and put your own special touches all over it throughout the process.
Alright, you have your board base. Now what?
This is where the real fun begins! Now comes the time when you get to decide exactly how you want your ideal life to look. The perfect home, the perfect car, the perfect job, the perfect income, the perfect relationship, the perfect state of well being. Consider, if you will, that at this point the Universe is your own personal catalog order system, and now you are getting to pick out every experience, every product, every characteristic you truly want. Got an idea of that perfect house? Great! Now you go find pictures of it! Look through your magazines, your newspapers. Find or take a photograph. Paint it. Draw it! Write a sentence about it. Put these images up on your Vision Board of the thing you want to attract, and do not be afraid to get as detailed as you truly wish. Want more money to come into your life? Great! Take a clipping of your bank statement, white out the amount of money you have in the bank and write in a new amount. Take your last paycheck stub and write yourself a new income figure! You can even take something as simple as a one dollar bill, and right next to the one, fill in a few zeros. Want a more fulfilling relationship? No problem. Find or make some images of what the perfect relationship looks like to you – a picture of two people holding hands, a couple laughing together… and what do you do? Put it up on the board!
I would encourage you to be unafraid to get physically creative with this project. If you can paint, draw, write, or photograph, so much the better. You like to sculpt? Go for it. Not only will you end up with an end product invested with your most intimate, personal energy, but you can also turn around, photograph it and do what? Stick that up on the board! Good with words? Great. Write a few for the board! Engage your senses, exercise your talents, however little or extensive they may be. In the end, the Vision Board is a tool that it both made by you, and made for you. You are, therefore, the only audience that ever needs to see it or know it is there.
The Key to Your Miracle Machine:
So you have decided what you want, you’ve built your Vision Board, you’ve filled it plenty of visual power and you’re ready to make it run. What comes next?
I said earlier that the real fun begins when you start building your Vision Board, but this next part is the part that seems to be the most favorite of people with whom I’ve spoken. This is the part where you take your imagination out of the storage box, dust it off, fire it up and start to reap some of the pleasure that having a Vision Board brings! As you probably already know, one of the principles of the Law of Attraction states that what you think about, and thank about, you bring about. I’m about to give you the key that powers up this delightful little machine and really makes it go. Are you paying attention? Good!
Let’s say you have an image up on your Vision Board of your dream home, your perfect relationship or your ideal income. Look at it now. I’m willing to bet that as you look at that image, you can easily feel, and identify, that feeling you have of wanting that experience, can’t you? You really want that house, really want that car, really want that paycheck, right? Feel it? Good. Now here’s a little secret. By feeling that feeling, or having that thought, that you really want that experience, you are simply stating to the universe at large, “I want to feel this feeling of wanting this experience. I want to want it more than I do now, and I want to want other things as well.” Guess what’s going to happen? You’re going to continue to want it, continue to want it, continue to… By the Law of Attraction, when you say, “I want this new home”, the universe has no choice but to reply, “Okay. You want this new home.”
Well it’s good to want things, but you don’t want to be stuck in that stage of “wanting it” for an extended period of time, do you? You want to have it, right? So now how do you tell the universe, not “I want to continue wanting” but “I want to have“? By imagining yourself having it. Look at the house again, only this time, try not to indulge that nagging feeling that says, “I want this house.” Instead, really try to imagine yourself already in that house. See yourself parking your car in that driveway. See yourself having dinner in that fabulous kitchen. See yourself putting up those new curtains! More importantly, though, don’t just see it. Feel it. Feel the excitement you have every time you walk through the door of your new home, feel the immense appreciation you have when you go to bed in your new home. Feel the gratitude, the thankfulness you feel when you wake up on a lazy Saturday morning to your new home. See it, think it, feel it, as if you already have it, and you are saying to the universe at large, “I have this new home.” In response, according to the Law of Attraction, the universe has no choice but to reply, “Okay. You do.”
This step is very important, and I cannot stress that enough. Attraction works by bringing more of what you think, feel and do to you. Doesn’t it make sense then that in order to consciously, actively, harness this law and use it, your thoughts, feelings and actions have to reflect (or be a perfect match to) what you desire? Now you have a very powerful tool at your disposal to help you do just that.
Is It Really Working?
Absolutely! The Law of Attraction is always in existence and always in action. Of course things don’t magically appear, nor do they necessarily show up in our lives the moment we think about them… and thank goodness for that! You are always changing, and as a result, so are your desires. If, therefore, you change your mind, or you have second thoughts, you have all the leeway in the world to refocus your attentions and put them elsewhere. There is also another very important element to this process. If you focus more of your attention on having what you desire, and less of your attention upon having that achievement happen a certain way, through specific means, it will make it much easier for you to use Attraction as a tool. The Universe at large already knows the easiest, the best, the most effective way to bring you what you want, so let it do that part of the job... and you do yours.
By the same token, this also requires you to be open, aware and accepting of the various opportunities that are going to pop up in your life that are coming, in response, to give you those things. Here are a couple of examples: You might not get the pay raise it would take to bring your income up to where you want it to be, but you might get a new job offer elsewhere that does offer the income you seek. You might not get the surprise check in the mail for the extra few thousand you want to receive, but you might get an *idea* for a new project, product or service that will end up bringing the thousands you seek. Have faith. Be receptive. Take the initiative. In this way you are using the board, together with your thoughts, feelings and actions, to put everything in harmony and open the door for the fulfillment you seek to come through.

A New (Digital) Vision!
With the advent of the Internet and the digital age, vision boards are most definitely not restricted to traditional media means anymore! There are several free photo edit and graphic design programs available out there, many of them quite user friendly even to the most technologically challenged. Not only can you now make a Vision Board desktop background for your own PC, instead of a traditional poster board type, but you can make a digital one to go with your poster paper Vision Board. So make a desktop background. Make a screensaver. Make a photo slideshow! You can even make something on the computer, print it out on paper and then put that up on your poster Vision Board. The possibilities are endless, and so it your potential.
