How to Write a Great Paper

I’ve never been a big fan of writing papers, whether it be for college, high school, or extracurricular activities, likes clubs we had at my old school. What I have learned through my years of experience is that it doesn’t take much to write a paper that is very successful and that scores a very high grade.

Many people dread writing a big paper, oh my, but don’t worry, you will get over it. The keys to success in writing a big paper are very simple. To start out, get an idea about what you should write about, unless one has already been assigned for you. For sake of argument, we were issued to write about “Forest Destruction and How it Affects us.”

Yeah, your welcome for choosing such a great topic. Well anyways lets get started, we need to lure people in with a hook, so let’s think of one. We could start by giving an anecdote, which is a short story, or a hook to draw people into reading. So how about we start off by saying “Over 50,000,000 trees are being torn down a year in forests all over the world!” Wow, gripping huh?, Then continue that statement by giving some more facts about what is happening with our environment today.

Moving on, after you have written a compelling introduction, you need to come up with a thesis. The thesis should be a statement in your paper that will cover broad subjects that you will be covering in your body paragraphs. So lets say you want to talk about Forests produce lots of oxygen, the fact that if logging keeps up that no forests will be left, and something about how many animals will become extinct because they will have no homes.

Thesis would be written like, “Forests are one of the leading providers of oxygen in the world, if logging continues there will be little to know forests left, and by cutting down the forests thousands of animals will become extinct every day.”

Wow, that is a great thesis so far, good job! Now to move onto our body paragraphs. These will flow with the thesis, since we talked about forests producing oxygen, write a paragraph or two about how much they produce in the world. Same with the second and third thesis statements. Research how many trees are being logged out of existence, and what types of animals are also threatened by loss of forests.

Important Note: It doesn’t matter if this paper is suppose to be 2 pages, or 20 pages. Follow the basic format with the same type of thesis. Just increase the amount of research, but stay on topic about each statement. If you are talking about Trees producing oxygen, don’t jump into animals yet, save that for that part.

Now the conclusion is basically a restatement of the thesis, and tells readers important facts of what they have learned, and it shows them the most important facts that you as an author would like them to take away with them too.

So great job, and good luck writing that paper!
