How to Mix Your Own Nail Polish Color

Nail Polishes

Nail polishes come in hundreds of different colors. From blue to black to red, most of the colors are found in nail polishes. Grocery stores and drug stores offer a great selection of nail polishes at low prices, and the polishes of higher qualities can be purchased at cosmetic stores, or professionally applied at a nail salon. Between all those place, you would think that everyone would be able to find a color that they love and is just perfect for them, but you’d be surprised how many people have trouble finding that perfect color of nail polish. If you happen to be one of these people, don’t worry, there is something you can do. Mix your own nail polish color and you won’t ever have to worry about looking through hundreds of colors just to find out that there isn’t a color for you.

Materials
-different nail polishes (white and black are always helpful to have)
-empty nail polish bottle
-paper towel
-mixing tool

Instructions
1. First you’ll have to decide what color you are going for. If you want a blue nail polish or a different shade of red, you have to decide that before you start mixing. When you go the store to purchase your nail polish, buy a bottle of black nail polish, a bottle of white nail polish, and a bottle of a whatever shade of nail polish is closest to the one you want. If you want a nail polish that is a secondary color (one which you have to combine two different colors to get) purchase the two colors that make up the one you want.

2. Once you have purchased the nail polish color, it’s time to start mixing! Do not automatically start pouring one color into the bottle of the other color. By doing this, you may find that you don’t like the shade you have created and it’s harder to fix in large amounts. To avoid wasting any of your nail polish and wasting money, try out different mixtures on the paper towel.

3. If you have chosen to mix a secondary color, add the two colors together. If you find that the color is too light no matter how much of the two colors you add, add just a tiny bit of black to the mixture. Be careful with black, it is extremely noticeable and could ruin your mixture if you add too much. If you find that the shade is too dark, add some white nail polish to the mixture. Try to remember the proportions when mixing.

4. Once you have reached a color that you like, start mixing in the empty bottle. Remember the proportions you used when mixing the color in a smaller quantity. If you are unsure about how much nail polish needs to be put to recreate the color, always use less. You can add more, but you won’t be able to take any away once it’s in. Mixing nail polish is a lot like mixing paint, you learn by trial and error.
