Learning in the classroom is fine and good if you want college credits. Let’s forget about college classes and academic type theories. If you really want to start speaking Spanish with Spanish speakers, it makes sense to start learning Spanish that you can put into use right away.

The problem with learning in a classroom setting, is most teachers, classes, and courses sacrifice ease of learning for academic points. After all, they have to have you there the whole semester. They insist on teaching minor points of grammar that really have very little effect on your ability to communicate. When was the last time you gave thought to a “dangling participle”?

To put it in simple terms, Spanish that you can actually put to use in the real-world is really the best place to start learning. There is in fact a way to learn Spanish vocabulary very quickly. It is not usually taught with great detail to students, yet it is the best way to learn to communicate in Spanish quickly.

There are as many as 3,013 Spanish words that you can learn to use very easily. The reason you can use them so easily is because you already know these words. Many English words have Latin roots. Because of this, many Spanish and English words are very similar.

Learning these words easily involves learning how to recognize English and Spanish words that are cousins so to speak. These words will have the same Latin roots in common. By recognizing these patterns, learning Spanish will be very easy to learn and put into use. In fact, you will have access to a potential vocabulary of 1000s of Spanish words. For instance the Spanish word for “traffic” is “tráfico”. Slightly different pronunciation but very similar.

The second secret to learning Spanish quickly is to use the power of your imagination. Most of our learning in school depends on use of the left side of the brain, which is analytical. Rote memorization uses the left side of the brain. However, by using mnemonics, you put the right side of your brain to use. This is the creative, imaginative side, and will put the turbo power into your learning.

An example of this would be in remembering names. For instance you meet Mike. You don’t want to forget his name, so you use your imagination and picture a tall microphone. So when you see Mike again, the picture of the “mike” pops into your head and you remember his name. The same technique can be applied to learning Spanish.

In order to speed up the learning process, you will want to learn the words that are the most practical, most commonly used words. Studies have shown that in half of all communication, as few as 100 words are used over and over again. Learning these frequently used words and their usage, you should be able to communicate in Spanish in short order.
