Clogged Toilet

Unclog Toilet

Do not grab the plunger first to unclog your toilet!! Plunging could have been the first step but there is a possible problem with using the plunger first and that is it can actually pack the clog into the toilet tighter so if you grab the plunger first the more simple techniques below may not work. Just a note. When your toilet clogs you want to get it unclogged as fast as possible especially if you have company. These tips will help you unclog your toilet and back to the party. These tips start with the easiest and quickest method first ending with the most time consuming technique, the infamous snake. These tips are condensed for quick reading because you may be in a hurry and this is meant to help you unclog your toilet quick.

Tapping to Unclog Toilet

Tapping your toilet is the first thing you want to try. It is quick and simple and all you need is your shoe or wood handle to your plunger. Without using words you won’t understand just look on the side of your toilet, the part you sit on, and locate the snake looking bulge running there. This is where you want to tap with something softer than the porcelain to make sure you don’t bust it. Your rubber soled shoe could be enough but if not use the wood or plastic handle end of your plunger and tap lightly all along this snake looking bulge in the toilet. You will be amazed. If it does not work initially continue using this step with the following to help them out too.

Dish Soap to Unclog Toilet

Adding a little dish soap to your toilet might do the trick. If your toilet is slow to run out and is not overflowing when you flush this works great. Add about a tablespoon of dish soap to your toilet and flush. As the water slowly flows out it will carry the dish soap into the clog and loosen it in two ways. It will actually eat away the by products of the clog and it will lubricate the toilet bowl and help the clog slip slide away. If this does not work add another tablespoon and go to the hot water step below and let the hot water work with the soap.

Hot Water to Unclog Toilet

Believe it or not pouring hot water into your toilet can dislodge whats clogging it. Fill a container, from your kitchen, with hot water from your sink. Slowly pour the hot water into your toilet. You will need at least a gallon but if two will fit pour it in. The trick here is to actually warm the water all the way to the clog so that the warm water can warm the clog which helps it move through the toilet and on its way. Do not boil the water just sink water and pour that warm water directly into the water in the toilet because porcelain can crack if too hot of water hits it fast. Sink water should not do this but by pouring directly into the cold water slowly warms the porcelain and this will keep it from cracking.

Washing Powder and Vinegar to Unclog Toilet

If none of the previous steps have you clogged toilet cleared it is time for the washing powder and vinegar trick. Add a cup of washing powder to your toilet and then another gallon of water if you toilet will hold it. Let the powder work for a couple minutes and do the tapping trick. If the clog is still there add a cup of vinegar and another gallon of hat water if the toilet will hold it. The vinegar will start the washing powder foaming and this foaming action helps to loosen the clog. Tap the side again as the soap and vinegar works at the clog. If the clog still has not moved it is time for the plunger.

Plunger to Unclog Toilet

The plunger is a great tool and does wonders on a clogged toilet. A lot of people do not even own a plunger until they have a clog during a party. Place plunger on the hole in the bowl making sure it is sealed good. Be sure to move away any debris that might get under the lip of the plunger and break the seal. Slowly push in the plunger and let it move out on its own. If the plunger moves out quickly and you see it suck water in along the lip of the plunger then you do not have a good seal and you need to reposition it on the hole and try again. If the plunger moves out slowly or hardly at all then you have a good seal and you can begin to work the plunger in and out a few times then removing the plunger to see if the water runs out if it does you are done if it does not repeat a few times and if the clog is still there you have a duzee and will have to move on to the next step. The Auger.

Auger to Unclog Toilet

An auger may be a plumbers first step but I made it the last because most homeowners do not own an auger so this is when you have to tell your party that you have to go the the home store and will be right back. The toilet auger is specially designed to run through that snake looking bulge on your toilet. Remember, that place you were tapping on? Stick the auger into the hole in your toilet and begin to slowly turn and push. You can feel the clog when you hit it just keep turning until the water flows out of the toilet. If you get the auger all the way in and the clog is still there then your toilet is not clogged or someone flushed some foreign object not meant for the toilet and a plumber may need to be called at this time.
