How to Make a Popsicle Stick Puppet

Puppet Show

If you are to take the time to make a Popsicle stick puppet, your kids may just love you to death for doing just one simple thing with a Popsicle stick. In order to get you started off in the right direction, you must first find all of the materials that you will be needing in order to do this very simple little project. Most of the materials if not all of the materials can be found at your local retail store or crafts store. You may even want to set up a simple little scenery addition to your little puppet show that you will be performing for your children. The materials that you will be needing for this project are all listed below and should not be impossible to find at all.

Materials:

You will be needing some eyes for your project. You can find little eyes at your retail store. The kind of eyes that you’re going to be needing are going to be the smallest that you can find. They usually come in a large packet of about 1,000 pieces. You’re probably not going to be able to just find individual sets of eyes. The packets are usually relatively cheap though and you can use all of the extra eyes to use for other projects.

You will be needing some yarn of any color of your choosing. You won’t be needing very much at all. I would say about a foot of yarn would be enough to do your project with.

You then will need something for a nose which could be about anything of your choosing that is very small in size. You could use a cotton ball and cut it down to size if you wish to use a cotton ball. This would make a perfect nose.

You will also need some Elmer’s glue or any other glue that is good for crafts. The glue will be used to paste the items onto the Popsicle/

Instructions:

You will first need to get your glue out and all other items and lay them out onto your table or on the floor.

This will be very simple process to follow to make your Popsicle stick puppet.

First: Glue your eyes onto your puppet side by side. Remember when I said that they eyes need to be small in size ? The eyes need to be small enough to paste together side by side on the width of your Popsicle stick.

Second: Glue your nose onto your stick from the piece of cotton ball that you cut down to size just below the eyes.

Third: Glue a small small piece of yarn just below the nose to create the mouth for your puppet. You can make any kind of mouth you wish to whether it be a frown, smile, straight look. You can do anything for any kind of face you wish.

You can then use the extra yarn to create some hair if you wish.

Extra stuff that you can do:

You can paste some paper arms and hands onto your Popsicle stick puppet if you so wish and have it doing different motions such as waving or cut the paper to where it will look as though the Popsicle stick puppet is mad and resting it’s hands on it’s hips with elbows pointed out.

You can also add on some ears by pasting on just itty bitty pieces of paper. They don’t have to even look like ears. You decide.

Once you’re done, start putting on your show for your child by telling a story line or just having fun making up stuff to teach your child life lessons using your Popsicle stick puppet.

Enjoy !
