How to Make a Baby Body Pillow

Since new born babies are just unable to stay on their side without rolling one way or the other. The body pillow is a super idea to prevent the rolling from happening.

The pillow needs to be longer than the baby from birth. Of course the longer the length will determine how long the baby can use it. When making the baby body pillow it needs to be about 36 inches to 40 inches long. The width should be approximately 12 to 16 inches wide. It can be made with any material. The material used can have a baby’s design on it or just about what ever you choose. Recycling used receiving blankets, or just purchasing a couple for the baby body pillow is a great idea and just about the size that is needed. Now make sure that the thread that is used is the same color as the material used. Next is the filling for the baby body pillow. A good material to use for this is which can be purchased at any craft or sewing store.

Next, the outer material used for this project will need to be folded then measured. Just be sure that all sides are cut to be sewn. When cutting be sure to use a straight edge or the baby body pillow will not be straight. The best way to do this is to lie the material after folding it down where it will be cut. Now use a yard stick to make the straight line for the edges. Take a sewing pencil to mark the edges to be cut. Now use straight pins to pin the material together so that it stays together and doesn’t move around or apart while cutting it. After the material for the baby pillow is cut, it is time to sew it.

Start sewing with the sewing machine at the narrow end down the length of the baby pillow. Sew all the way around until you are at the end opposite from the side which you started. Be sure to back stitch at each corner. Now that you are back at the narrow end again, back stitched. Next sew about five to six inches across the end. Then turn the case inside out. Now it’s time to add the polyfil by placing it in the open end of the pillow cover. As the filling is pushed down inside the cover, smooth it out across the narrow end and all the way to the end. Of course you want it to have enough filling that it will look like a normal pillow. When it reaches that point add a little more for the comfort of the baby body pillow. This way the baby will not be to roll over the top of it.

Now to finish the baby body pillow, either close the rest of the end with the machine or tack stitch it. Just be sure that you double stitch at the start and at the end. Now the pillow is ready to be used.
