How to Make a Doll Birthday Cake

Cake Batter, Pyrex

This is an easy way to make a doll birthday cake for a special little girl. The items you need are an eight or nine inch round cake pan that is two to three inches deep, two cake mixes, the amount of eggs that both cake mixes call for, the amount of oil or water that the cake mixes call for, flour, non-stick cooking spray, three tubs of frosting, a two quart Pyrex bowl, food coloring, and one Barbie doll. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Next you are going to prepare the cake mixes one at a time like you normally would with the required ingredients.

Next you need to prepare your Pyrex bowl and the round cake pan. First spray the pan and the bowl with the non-stick cooking spray generously. Next put approximately to teaspoons of flour in each. You should then move the flour around both the bowl and ban until the sides are covered with flour. You can add more flour if necessary. Your bowls are now prepared.

Pour the batter into the bowl until the bowl is ¾ of the way full and pour batter into the round cake pan. Make sure that the batter is relatively even in the pan and bowl. Place the pan and bowl in the oven and bake until they are both done with the toothpick test. If you do not know how to do the toothpick test, here are the directions: Take a clean toothpick for each and place in the center of the cake. When you pull it out it will still be clean and free of cake batter if it is done. If it comes out with cake batter, it should be baked longer.

When the cake is baked, they should both be removed from the oven and set to cool for at least 15 minutes. Remove from the pan and bowl and continue to cool for an additional three hours. When they are both cool, you need to trim as necessary, so the round cake is flat. You now need to decide how many colors you want the frosting to be and tint the frosting to make those desired colors. Next frost the base, which is the round cake the desired color.

Invert the cake that came from the bowl on top of the frosted round cake. The cake should then look somewhat like a hat. Please review my drawing I provided for clarification. Next you need to stick a Barbie into the center of the cake. I suggest tying her hair up so it does not get in the frosting. Next you should frost the dress portion of the cake. You will frost up onto Barbie’s to create the bodice of the dress. When you are done frosting the cake, you can store in the refrigerator until the party. I have provided a picture of a completed cake also.
