How to Play Wii Games on Your Computer

Intro

You are probably laughing right now at the title of this article. You believe that there is absolutely no way that playing Wii games on your computer is even remotely possible. At least right now, you think. Well I was on your side. I too believed that it could not be done for several reasons especially it being in the 7th generation of video games consoles. Well I am here to inform you that it can be done if you have a high-quality computer. This article will tell you how it is done and it will hopefully give you evidence that it definitely can be done. Oh and if you are still in serious doubt watch this video of someone playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl using the Dolphin Emulator. Did you see that? Was that all the evidence that you needed to see if this was possible? Now let’s read the rest of this article to see how it is done!

Your Computer Type

To even imagine yourself playing Wii games on your computer, you will need a nice, expensive computer. Your computer should have 3 or 4GB of RAM. If it does not have this much, the Wii games could possibly run slow. Also having Windows Vista or Windows 7 would up your chances of Wii games working on your computer. It would help because you will need a computer that has 64-bit color. Windows XP has 32-bit and you can try playing on Windows XP, but I promise you will not play the Wii game in high definition with these color settings and it might not look entirely good. So basically you need the best and if you do not have or meet any of these recommendations, I would stop reading this article right here because you would be wasting your time. If you meet some of these recommendations (like for example having Windows Vista, 64-bit color setting, but a 2 GB RAM), I would definitely continue reading this article and see if it is possible with your computer.

Getting the Dolphin Emulator

Get the Dolphin Emulator. Read all about this emulator here if you want to. There are many places to download the Dolphin Emulator. You can go to the Emulator Zone to download it; however I would go to the actual website to get the newer Dolphin Emulators because they are constantly updating them to make them work better and make them compatible with more games. Go to their website by clicking here. They make 2 different types of emulators which are: a 32-bit and a 64-bit. If you want to play Game Cube games (you can play Game Cube games with the Dolphin Emulator also) and you have Windows XP or higher, download the 32-bit version, but get the 64-bit for the Wii. Remember, the 64-bit is for Windows Vista and Windows 7 only. You can try using the 32-bit for the Wii if you have Windows XP, but there are no promises that it will work unfortunately. Also, always get the newer emulators. Download the ones on the top that usually says, [new] right next to them. After you download that, you are ready for the next step.

Where on Earth Do I Get a Wii ROM?

I will admit it was hard finding Wii ROMs, but after a few minutes of intense research I found a good website. The good thing about this site is that they have ROMs for many popular systems. This fortunately includes the Wii. The only downside is that they only let you download 1 ROM per day and you have to become a member on their website to download more. Click here to go on the NitroRoms website. The link should take you to the ‘S’ part of Wii ROMs. We want to download ‘Super Smash Bros. Brawl’ and if you scroll down, you should see it. It is 7.94G! So, start downloading it and it will take several hours before it is complete. Do not interrupt the download or close out of it or you will have to re-download it in the next 24 hours. So my best advice is to start the download and leave your computer alone for several hours. It took 25 hours for me to download it personally. If anyone knows a better place to get Wii ROMs (even if it is with torrents) email: thelaserkids@yahoo.com. So once you have it downloaded, proceed to the next section.

Get 7-Zip to get the .wii File

Congratulations! Your computer did not crash while you downloaded it. Now that you have it, you need to download 7-Zip since ‘Super Smash Bros. Brawl’ is in the .7z file format. Click here to download it from their official website or just click here to just download it from this article! After you download it, right click on the ‘Super Smash Bros. Brawl (E) (M5).7z’ file. Then go on ‘7-Zip’ and then click on ‘Open Archive’. It should open the folder. Drag the ‘Super Smash Bros Brawl.wii’ out of the folder preferably to your Dolphin Emulator folder or desktop. This process should take anywhere between 10-30 minutes because it is a large file. Now that it is completed, you should open up the Dolphin Emulator and open up the game file from where you have the file and you should start playing!

More Information about the Dolphin Emulator

This emulator is amazing when it comes to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You can even play it in 720p HD resolution! (To see a picture of it in 720p HD, click here. Zoom into the picture so you can see what I mean.) Yeah, that’s right. On the Wii, you can only play games up to 480p. So does this suggests that the emulator is better then the console itself? That is what it may seem like, but I would rather still play it on my Wii. Still, I applaud how there is an emulator already emulating a game system in the 7th generation and also emulating it to better performance then the original console! So that is it to this article. If you want further information about the Dolphin emulator watch this video. This video will introduce you to the Dolphin Emulator as well as other good console emulators. Thank you for reading and tell your friends about this article! Again, email thelaserkids@yahoo.com and I will be delighted to answer more of your questions and comments.
