Downtown Orlando, Music for Memorial Day

Memorial Day Weekend is a fun time to enjoy yourself with family and friends while remembering the men and women who sacrificed everything for their country. If you are looking for fun things to do over the weekend with your family or friends try these events happening in the Central Florida area.

Orlando Carnival Downtown –

This annual event is staged over Memorial Day Weekend from May 24th to May 26th. This will be the 19th year for the festivities that showcase Caribbean and Mardi Gras cooking, costumes and performers. The street parade will start downtown at around 9AM May 24th and the procession will make its way Thunder Field which is opposite the Florida Citrus Bowl and adjoing Tinker Field. The parties this year will literally be running all day and night throughout the weekend with lots of events including kiddie parades, Steelband and calypso competitions, cook offs, soul food sampling and lots of unique Caribbean music. There will also be lots of vendors selling handmade items reflecting the Caribbean and African American cultures.

Fulton’s Crab House Alaskan Seafood Festival –

Starting the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend until the second weekend in June Fulton’s Crab House in the Downtown Disney Marketplace will be hosting their annual seafood festival. You can sample or purchase a wide range of delicious Alaskan Seafood. This event is very popular, so call ahead on the weekends.

Orlando International Fringe Festival –

This annual event in downtown Orlando has its roots in Scotland. Orlando celebrations the theatrical and performing arts over 10 days in the streets, theaters, and converted office spaces of downtown Orlando. The times, dates and shows are numerous and it is a good idea to study the website first before you leave. You can see many up and coming actors and improv artists, or see many of the movies, short films and documentaries being presented this year.

Annual Blue Crab Festival –

The city of Palatka is celebrating its 20th anniversary with this years Blue Crab festival and cook out. Enjoy the entire Memorial Day Weekend with your family in downtown Palatka. Palatka might be a small town but this festival is one of the largest in the state of Florida and draws thousands of people to it annually.

The festivities kick off on May 23rd at 12PM with live entertainment all day and an early peek at the events happening on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The festival gets underway on May24th starting at 10AM in downtown and continues all weekend with games, cook offs, shrimp and craw fish competitions, music contests and tons of activities for the kids. There will also be craft areas and antique dealers on site to purchase and sell items.

The festivities will be closing out on Monday, May 26th with a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers of current and previous wars. There will also be a parade and ceremony to honor those who have served this great nation in the past and who continue to serve in today’s military.
