Free Bookshelf Quilt Block Patterns

Quilt Block

I have seen the bookshelf quilts in competitions at Belle Plaine, Kansas’, Tulip Time Quilt section of the arts and crafts fair and at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, Kansas. There have been different variations on any one of the bookshelf quilt block patterns.

I have seen quilts made from one quilt block pattern. There have been bookshelf quilt block patterns made with two or more different blocks from the list below. Some of them were all hand sewn, some were sewn by machine, and some were made by both methods.

With any method and blocks used, all of those bookshelf quilt block patterns were colorful. Not only that, they were made by groups, men, women, and children. I was surprised at how each groups take was on these bookshelf quilts.

One year walking through the Kansas State Fair quilts, my husband asked me why I didn’t make one and enter it into the judging. I had to laugh because I thought my quilts weren’t any where near as good as those who were being judged no matter if they won a ribbon or not.

If you enjoy making quilts the free bookshelf quilt block patterns may be something you want to try if you haven’t yet. The best thing, I think, about making any quilt from blocks is you can cut all your pieces out first, mark them, and sew them by hand any place you are visiting. This can give you something to do when you find yourself with some down time due to bad weather or just taking a break from what you are doing on your trip.

Tips for Printing, Cutting, and Using the Free Bookshelf Quilt Block Patterns

You will need to cut the pattern apart to have the pieces needed for making this quilt. I would suggest printing at least two of the quilt block templates. By doing this, you will have one for using to cut out the pieces for the blocks. The other page will be used as a guideline for making the block sections.

Be sure to numbers on the pieces so you know which ones they are. Some of the quilt pieces will look the same when you have the pattern off of the fabric providing you are cutting them with the right side out. If you are cutting the pieces with the fabric folded, be sure to check the corner pieces because one will be turned the opposite direction of the pattern when you turn it over.

All of these bookshelf quilt block patterns can be used to make one quilt since they are all six inch blocks. This will be important when making any type of block quilt.
