Free Irish Chain Quilt Patterns

Quilt Block, Quilt Making, Quilt Patterns, Quilts

Even though I wrote Free Shamrock Applique Quilt Patterns and Free Shamrock Quilt Block Patterns for St Patrick’s Day, the free Irish Chain quilt patterns can be made in place of the shamrock quilts if you would prefer to do so. You could make one of each or all the different quilts for St Patrick’s Day for decorating a bedroom or two.

These Irish Chain quilt patterns are all different from each other. There is a single, double, and triple versions of the quilts. With one of the double quilt versions, it is even different from the other version. The Trip to Ireland has a version of the Irish Chain quilt in it. That’s why I listed it in this group of quilts.

The Irish Chain quilts have their own style of making them over the other two versions I have written about previously. There may be quilt makers who will enjoy this version of a St Patrick’s Day quilt over the two versions of the shamrock quilts.

If you were to make all the quilts for St Patrick’s Day from all three articles, you would have 12 different quilts for your home. As I haven’t searched for leprechauns or pots of gold for quilt making, there could be even more quilts to make for your home. This way you wouldn’t have to use the same quilt twice hardly ever in your lifetime.

Tips for Making the Free Irish Chain Quilt Patterns

When buying your fabrics at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Joann’s or other fabric stores, be sure to buy all your fabrics at the same time. If you don’t, when you find you need more fabric of what you have already bought, you may not be able to find it again.

One other thing you may want to consider buying at the time you buy your fabrics or soon after, buy any embellishments you want to place on the quilt top. Such embellishments are the small plastic shamrocks, pots of gold or other Irish related items. Those often sell out like fabrics for Irish related themes or St. Patrick’s Day.

Be sure to read through the instructions of the Irish Chain quilt patterns to see how they are made. Three of the four are made using a rotary cutter while the fourth uses a block template.
