Long Island Attractions – the Brookhaven Fair

Long Island isn’t very popular when it comes to entertainment or popular attractions. Sure, we have the lighthouses, the water, theaters, and so on, but not everyone is into those things. Luckily there is a fair that comes to Long Island once a year, and it dubbed Long Island’s Largest Fair.

The name of this popular fair is the Brookhaven Fair. The fair stays open for about 3 weeks and comes once a year or so. They do not only have incredible rides to go on, but they have mind boggling shows. The admission is very wallet lenient as well, as the fair usually strikes deals for admission, and they send out coupons in local newspapers.

The Brookhaven Fair, as I said before, conducts many different types of shows, but all are amazing. For example, they have an enclosed steel circle in which multiple motorcyclists ride around in at dangerous speeds. The steel ball (which you can see inside of, obviously) is very small, which makes the entertainment even more intense. Another example of one of the Brookhaven Fair’s shows is their elaborate fireworks shows they pull off, in which they light up the nights’ sky with perfectly synchronized explosives. Other shows include other thrill shows, high-wire acts, dog races, pig races, magic/illusion shows, and other general circus acts such as clown acts.

What good park doesn’t have rides? None. The Brookhaven Fair contains a large array of rides that include a ferris wheel, a small roller-coaster, the Gravitron, and much more. For those of you who do not know what the Gravitron is, it’s a ride in which you walk into a disc-shaped enclosure (closely associated with a UFO shape). Once inside you stand on a specific spot on the wall. There’s a small booth in the middle where a man sits to operate the machine. When the Gravitron starts up the ride spins, and you are sent against the wall due to gravitational forces. Yes, your body will actually lift itself off the ground while pressed against the wall! There’s specific panels behind you (which is why you need to choose a specific spot) that move up and down with your body. There are a few rules though, such as no spinning upside down.

The Brookhaven Fair is very easy to find. The fair is located on Bald Hill, which is in Farmingville. Farmingville is a town that is located in Suffolk County on Long Island. They also set up near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which basically looks like a large white spike with the American Flag painted on it in a unique fashion. Have fun!
