Once you’re done stuffing your face with greasy carnival food and getting your fill of all the rides you can handle, why not take a short break and watch a few of the unique shows at Santa’s Theme Park? Scattered around the festival you can watch various animal shows, a few off the wall comedy acts, and even a traveling family of acrobats. The only downside to all of the shows is that about 75 percent of the shows all take place at the exact same times, making it a bit hard to catch every one of the shows that you may want to watch.
A favorite of Krystina and I’s from last year was the family of acrobats and circus performers. The family originated from South America, but now I think their operation is based out of Texas. The entire show is announced by a small, old, Hispanic guy with a huge booming voice, which is of itself very entertaining. You can expect to see them first perform on a huge balancing wheel/swing that allows the acrobat to go inside and outside of it and perform all kinds of cool tricks about 20 feet into the air. A new addition to the line-up this year as a twelve year old boy that did a few handstands on a raised platform while his anxious mother stood about a foot away from him while he performed various “feats. The kid is not the greatest thing you’ve ever seen, but he is definitely one of the strongest kids I’ve seen in ages. After him comes his mother, swinging hula hoops around her arms and body. She is really not that impressive but everyone has to have their part in the show. As the finale to the show, you get to see the kid as well as other performers hop onto dirt bikes and ride around the “Globe of Death. If you’ve never seen a “Globe of Death” then I highly recommend that you see this show as it will blow your mind, even if you have seen one, this show still has a unique flair to it.
A new show that was added this year very quickly became my favorite show of the evening, and that’s the tiger act. I am a huge cat person, in fact I have 2 cats that rule my household and allow me to live there with them. If you love cats, or even just spend time around them then you’ll want to be sure to catch this show. The trainer has seven tigers that all come out and perform at once and continually remind the trainer who is in charge. You’ll catch the cat’s taking playful swings at each other, disobeying their trainer, and just generally being 600 pound versions of a common house cat. The picture at the top of this article is of the tiger with the most personality, she would like the bars of the cage, make an incredibly sour face, and then turn to the audience and make gaging faces and stick out her tongue. When there big cats are actually listening to the trainer you’ll get to see them jump through hoops, balance on tiny platforms, and even walk a tight-rope (the tight-rope walking tiger is the only on in the world that can perform that feat according to the trainer). The show will end with the trainer bringing out a beautiful white tiger that does little more than strut around the cage but she is a beautiful cat.
