We have a motorhome and every summer we take many camping trips. Sometimes we go out for the weekend, but occasionally we stay out for one to two weeks. When we are in a campground that doesn’t have any showers, I get irritable – I hate my hair being messed up, and I am vain about my looks … at least that’s what my hubby says. Who’s gonna see you, he tells me. I don’t care, I hate it when my hair looks awful. One day, when I was shopping for a new hair dryer, I stumbled upon the Braun Cordless Curling Irons.
Cordless, You Say? Yes! What a cool concept! The combo curling iron / curling brush looks similar to other curling irons that I own, except it does not have a cord … that’s right, you don’t need electricity to be able to use it! Viloa!! A perfect camping companion! I snatched one up and brought it home and soon my camping “bad hair days” were over! Braun makes this in different barrel sizes, mine is 3/4″.
How They Work
These gadgets use Braun butane energy cells to heat up the barrel of the curler. The energy cell fits into the handle. There are arrows that tell you which direction it should be inserted. Using it is simple. You turn the gas flow by moving the switch from “0” to “1”, wait just 5 seconds, and push the starter forward until you hear a “click”. In just seconds the curler will be ready to use. There is a built in thermostat that keeps it at the optimal curling temperature. I use it as I would my normal curling iron.
When I’m done curling my hair I turn off the curler by moving the switch back to the “0” position. It comes with a heat-resistant cover that is larger than the barrel which allows me to put the cover back on even when the barrel is still hot! No need to wait around for the curler to cool off.
Does It Really Work?
Yes! I have used this every summer for the past several years, and the cells are still going strong. I have not had to replace one yet. There is, by the way, a see through panel on the end that shows you when you are getting low on gas.
This has saved me time and time again! I absolutely love this Braun Cordless Curling Iron. I use the curling iron more than I do the curling brush. The results are great … even my mother in law (who was a beautician for 40 years) used it and loved it. All us gals were taking turns with it!
You Must Take a few Precautions
Because the cells are butane, they are highly flammable. Do not use aerosols (hairspray) or other flammable’s around this curler. Don’t use hairspray during curling, I wait until I am done, and then go outside of the camper to spray my hair (yup, I do have a 5×7 mirror I take with me or I use the rear view mirrors of the motorhome). Do not smoke while using, don’t let it get wet, use only on dry hair, and don’t use on heavily bleached hair.
Even though Braun says they have a temperature control in them, these seem to heat up to a hotter temperature than I am used to, so I have to be careful to not keep it in my hair very long.
My Thoughts
I am truly 100% satisfied with this product! It has saved me many many times, and I won’t go on a camping trip without it. I keep it in the motorhome all summer but I do take it out in the winter because I don’t want the butane cartridges exposed to freezing temperatures. I often wash my bangs in the sink, and dry them in front of the furnace blower, then I pull out my trusty Braun Cordless Curling Iron and fix my hair. Now I don’t have to be self-conscious any more! This product is a real winner! It retailed for $25.00.
