10 Ways to Eat Hot Dogs

Corn Dogs, Hot Dogs, Spicy Chili

A hot dog is not just a hot dog anymore. While it sits near the top of Americans favorite foods, the toppings are what make the hot dog so delicious. What would the silly shaped meat be without the bun or ketchup or worse yet… with no relish!

Below is a list of ten popular ways to eat hot dogs, try one, try two or try them all. Better yet, mix them all together and make the most twisted hot dog in history.

Bean Franks
A favorite of many, especially children, Bean Franks are simple to make and taste delicious without requiring many ingredients. Cook hot dogs in a pot of baked beans. Scoop the mixture onto thick hot dog buns before serving.

Cheese-y Wienies
Everything tastes better with cheese…even hot dogs. Melt a few slices of Velveeta cheese in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stove. Place the hot dogs inside buns and drizzle the melted cheese over the meat.

Chicago Style
The hot dog of all hot dogs, a Chicago style features a high quality hot dog stuffed inside a poppy seed bun. Top the hot dog with white onion, tomato, sport peppers, dill pickles, sweet relish, and yellow mustard, sprinkled with celery salt for a final touch.

Chili Dogs
Heat up your insides on a cold winter day with a Chili Dog. Crack open a can of your favorite chili or make it from scratch instead. Pop a hot dog into a sturdy bun and top it with a generous helping of warm, spicy chili.

Corn Dogs
Surprise the kids with a meal on a stick. Poke wooden skewers into hot dogs. Mix the batter using 3 cups dry pancake mix, 1 cup corn meal, 1/4 cup water and 1 egg. Dip the hot dogs into the corn batter. Deep-fry the corn dogs at 375 degrees for approximately 3 minutes or until golden brown.

Deep Fried Wieners
As if hot dogs are not greasy enough, deep-frying them only intensifies the flavor. Place a hot dog inside a bun and add your favorite toppings such as onions, relish, sauerkraut or cheese. Mix a batch of liquid batter using 1 egg, 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup of milk. Dip the entire hot dog, bun and all, into the liquid batter. Make sure to completely cover the hot dog bun with the batter. Drop the battered hot dogs into the deep fryer and cook for 3 minutes.

Loaded Buns
Go the extra mile and add everything you like to your hot dog to create new flavors. Mix a variety of toppings such as onions, relish, sauerkraut, hot and/or sweet peppers, pickles, chili and cheese atop your hot dog for a unique meal in minutes.

New Yorker
Keep it simple, yet intoxicating with an original New Yorker hot dog. Stick with a Nathan’s or Sabrett hot dog, top it with spicy brown mustard, sauerkraut, and browned onions.

Pizza Dogs
Everyone has heard of a pizza burger. Why not make a pizza dog the same way? Place a hot dog into a bun and top with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. You could also add favorite pizza toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms or sausage. Pop the pizza dog into the oven, preheated to 375 degrees for about 5 minutes, to make the bun crispy and melt the cheese.

Pigs in a Blanket
Warm up your hot dog with a blanket of dough. Wrap hot dogs with pre-cut crescent roll dough. You could cut the hot dogs into smaller pieces or leave them whole instead. Bake at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes. Serve with a variety of dipping sauces such as spicy mustard, honey mustard, barbecue sauce or ketchup.
