New DVD Set Could Save “Lancelot Link’s” Home

Chimpanzees, Dvd Releases, Lancelot

Fans of the classic 1970s TV show Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp may be surprised to learn that the chimp that played him is still alive and living well at a chimp rescue in Los Angeles. The facility, Wildlife Waystation, needs to raise funds to renovate their facility and stay open, and they may get help from an unlikely source: a DVD set of the Lancelot Link series.

Film Chest will release the entire Lancelot Link television series in a special 3-disc set on May 29, featuring all 17 episodes that aired from 1970 to 1972. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the set will be donated to Wildlife Waystation to ensure Lance has a place to live out his remaining days.

“The Wildlife Waystation is very pleased and grateful to receive these proceeds to help us with the ongoing costs of maintaining the care of our chimpanzees,” said Martine Colette, the founder of Wildlife Waystation.

Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp was a popular Saturday morning children’s show for ABC. Using real chimpanzees and voice-over actors to tell spy stories was an unconventional concept, but the show was a hit and its quirky humor continues to win fans nearly forty years after it went off the air.

Previous DVD releases of the series did not include all 17 original episodes, and used inferior source material. This new release from Film Chest will not only include all episodes, it will use the original film masters from the ABC vault. Remastered for the highest picture quality and featuring the original mono soundtrack, the DVD set will also include number of special features, including behind-the-scenes documentary shorts and interviews with the show’s creators.
