Variations of the Master Cleanse Diet Recipe: Grapefruit, Honey and More

Liver Cleanse, Master Cleanse, Master Cleanse Diet

Do you remember the Beyonce diet? For a while it was discussed on the covers of supermarket tabloids and fodder for morning talk shows. It is perhaps not surprising that so many women went on to look at Beyonce Knowles as not only their new messiah of weight loss but also a vibrant showpiece that even a fad diet could work!

It is true that the Beyonce diet was successful in ushering in weight loss. It is also true that it included a detoxification procedure that was designed to rid the liver, kidneys and colon of waste materials that may have accumulated. Even though in the tabloids this diet was called the maple syrup diet or even lemon diet, these ingredients are somewhat negotiable.

What of course today’s groupies and teens fail to know is the fact that a liquid diet of any kind, but especially utilizing lemons or other citrus and combining it with a sugary substance will have not only a detoxifying effect on the colon but in the process will lead the dieter to shed weight.

Beyonce stated that she refrained from ingesting solid food for 10 days. Instead of eating, she would mix lemon juice with maple syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper and then drink this mix three or more times per day. What was not stated is the fact that this diet regimen may be traced back to one Sandra Cabot who early on popularized the approach but not as a diet but a liver cleanse.

The first step is to stay away from eating solids. To many is the hardest part of the regimen. Next comes the concoction. Lemons were the citrus of choice for Beyonce, but others have found that Grapefruit is much more palatable in that it adds are certain zing to the mixture that lemons fail to deliver. Limes are not a good choice in that they are too sour by far. Oranges contain too much natural sugar and thus will not perform the cleansing aspects of the liver and the kidneys in particular.

Maple syrup was a great choice for sweetener and quick energy boost, but organic honey is another option you will want to consider. Stay away from any kind of refined sugar, since the goal is to stay as natural as possible, and thus manmade or refined substances are not useful. The cayenne is optional, although it makes for a little kick which after day three is sorely needed to keep things interested.

While Beyonce followed her diet for 10 days, it is vital to understand that the Master Cleanse – by and large – should only be followed for about three to five days. Longer cleanses may lead to regrettable bodily harm, including an impairment of kidney functions. It was sadly not reported that Beyonce went on the Master Cleanse diet in order to shed pounds quickly for a movie shoot and thus the intent of engaging in an intentionally lopsided diet was planned.

The average teen – who should not be doing this to being with – most likely did not realize that this kind of dieting is not an acceptable method in the long run. Before you decide to engage in the master cleanse yourself to further your liver and kidney functions, make sure that your doctor pronounces you healthy enough to engage in this disruption of your regular bodily functioning!
