Natural Remedies for Frizzy Hair

Frizzy Hair, Hair Remedies, Oily Hair, Split Ends

For some women, frizzy hair is a daily battle. For others, just the occasional heat-induced nightmare. No matter how often you’re struck style-less by the hair frizzies, you don’t have to suffer in silence. There are many cures for the frizzy-haired blues, and some of them can be found in your own home already! Try these natural remedies to banish dried out, fritzed out locks for good.

Cure It With Oil & Water
Dry, frizzy hair is suffering from a lack of moisture. When thirsty hair needs to be quenched, such as in the hot summer months or from indoor heating systems in winter, drinking your daily amount of water can be a good way to keep hair moisturized. Also be sure to add some olive oil into your daily diet to revitalize those locks. You’ll be well-hydrated all the way around and may see a boost in your skin’s health and your hair’s vibrancy as well.

Repair the Breakage
Most frizzies are the result of broken hair and split ends. Try a deep conditioning treatment at home to repair the damage and strengthen your hair against further breakage. Daily Glow recommends a mixture of eggs and mayonnaise. Mix it well, pour it onto your dry hair and cover with a plastic cap. After 30-45 minutes (depending on how damaged your hair is), rinse it away with lukewarm water. You can use a gentle blow dryer setting for an extra 30 minutes to make sure the mixture gets deep into your hair for maximum results.

Brighten Dullness
Sometimes dry, frizzy hair needs a general brightening boost. Moisten your hair with warm water, then apply a generous amount of your choice of conditioning, refined oil. Good choices include sesame oil and apricot oil. Massage it into your hair and scalp, leave it under a plastic cap for about one hour, then rinse it away. Comb gently through your hair to detangle (no pulling!) and help spread the oil’s benefits throughout your hair.

Mend Split Ends
It’s true, split ends can be one of the most havoc-wreaking problems for your hair. Frizziness is just one of the things they can cause to happen to those locks. Fight and repair split ends with an olive oil rubdown and don’t touch it for two hours. Steam your hair for 30 minutes by wrapping a towel dipped in hot water (wring it out first), then wash your hair with yogurt for dry hair or buttermilk for oily hair and rinse with lukewarm water. Shampoo as usual the next day and you’ll be amazed at the results.

Frizz-Fighting Rinses to Try
The hair care website Naturally Curly recommends several rinses made with home ingredients to cure your hair of its frizziness. Give these a try at home:

  • Carbonated water, which fights frizz from humidity. Use carbonated or sparkling water to rinse your hair after a regular shampooing.
  • Apple cider vinegar, which helps curly hair stay frizz-less. Rinse your hair after shampooing with equal parts water and apple cider vinegar–that’s it.
  • Beer, which replenishes hair’s moisture. The darker the beer, the better! Coat your hair with beer, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water (to get rid of the smell, too!)

Follow up on any of these rinse treatments with a homemade conditioner to get the best results. Naturally Curly recommends a blend of 1 cup mayonnaise and 1/2 of an avocado into a paste. Cover your head, put on a plastic cap, wrap a hot towel around your hair, and sit for 20 minutes. Try this once a week until your hair is back to normal, then use intermittently whenever you need a boost!
