The Secret to Dressing Curvy Women

Curvy Women, Panty Lines, Wide Leg Pants

Many ‘curvy’ girls have the wrong idea when it comes to getting dressed. By curvy I do not mean full-figured or chubby. I am talking about women of all sizes that have a lot of curves. They put on clothing that covers their bodies and actually makes them look bigger. Shirts and dresses that have no shape will make your body look awkward and bulky. Wearing all black is also NOT the answer.

The secret to dressing curvy women is to accentuate the smallest part of the torso. This area for curvy women is either the rib cage or the natural waist (across belly button.) One can do this by belting a dress, shirt, or the right jacket in this area.

If the smallest part of the torso is the natural waist, one can wear a belted high-waist pencil skirt. If the smallest part of the torso is the rib cage, one should wear empire waist (waistline falls right under bust) shirts and dresses.

One of my favorite tricks for accentuating these areas is to wrap a lightweight (possibly silk) scarf around the body and then put a belt over top of it. This look works best if you have garment tape to keep the scarf and belt in place. Garment tape is affordable and can be bought at different beauty supply stores across the U.S. The belted scarf is an up and coming trend and if you start now, you can be one of the first in your town to pull it off.

There really is no secret to finding perfect pants. The key to pants is to try them on no matter what. You should try walking, sitting, bending, and kneeling. This way you will know all of the unpredictable outcomes. Curvy girls should always avoid fit-and-flare pants. If pants are tight at the knee, your hips and thighs will naturally look larger. Look for straight and wide leg pants. Most denim designers have caught onto women’s need to know this information before trying jeans on. They now usually label or sticker denim so you will know ahead of time.

If you have larger thighs and a smaller waist as most curvy women do, you probably have one very annoying problem with your pants. Do your pants fall down in the back when you sit? This happens because the waistband is either too big or too small for your waist. If the waistband is too small, your pants are just too tight. Go up a size! If the waistband is too big, that is usually because you need to go up a size to accommodate your thighs. Many women struggle with this problem. The problem is not you; it’s the pattern makers, manufacturers, and designers. There are a few ways to help fix this. First, look into body shapers. The new body shapers are comfortable and breathe. A good one should be seamless (also a great trick to hiding panty lines.) I have found that the ones without straps tend to roll down when worn, so avoid strapless. Second, look for pants with stretch to them. Many jeans now have spandex woven into the fabric. This doesn’t mean that you should go down a size. Just because something will stretch doesn’t mean that it should.

Curves are what make women beautiful; instead of hiding it, accentuate it.
