Three Stooges a Real YUK YUK YUK Fest

Barney Fife, Urkel

I had some free time yesterday and because polo practice was called off, the art museum was closed and The Club was being renovated, I did what any other sophisticated male would do in my tasseled loafers. I dragged, my son, that little Philistine, off for some culture. Yes, we went to The Three Stooges.

Can you really “review” The Three Stooges? What is there to say? That The Three Stooges is the height of sophisticated comedy. That this movie justifies millions years of evolution, just so we can sit in a theater and watch this insightful movie? That this movie will give you a significant overview of the psyche of mankind? That it could have been written by Shakespeare? A truly Oscar deserving, best screenplay, best actor movie? (To be honest, I would actually watch the Oscars if I could see The Three Stooges accept an award. ) Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk.

Should I write that a friend said she “was so sorry that she had to miss the movie of the year and its projected impact on the future of cinema. ”

Okay, okay, she really said ” How can you waste two hours on that movie?”

How?

The movie was great. I laughed out loud numerous times during this movie, much to the chagrin of my son. The father in front of me, obviously a comedy connoisseur , much like me, also laughed out loud , as his daughters sank deeper in their seats, thinking “Really? ”

You like slapstick, stupid , ridiculous chase scenes through city streets, hospitals and mansions? If you like poke in the eye, bonked in the head, falling down, anything for a stupid laugh humor – this is the movie for you. And me!

This is a cartoon come to life, a film to be cherished, stored in your personal vault of great movies, right next to Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, The Spy Who Shagged Me and Yogi Bear.

Come on, what other movie features a main sound effect of BONK!!!!

I loved it!

Of course my son pointed out, as we left the theater, that I think Barney Fife and Urkel represented the heights of comedic genius. I told him he was lucky to have such a discerning father.

And based upon my discerning taste, we saw The Three Stooges at the Dollar Theater and got our full dollar value.

One last thought. The scenes with the Jersey Shore Cast, are subtle and redeeming. Of course they weren’t, but I just wanted to fit “subtle” and “redeeming ” into this article. Come on, it’s Snookie meets Moe, how subtle can that be? It is hard to predict which one will run off with the Best Actor Award.

You want to see The Three Stooges? Grab a keg, grab some buddies and have a great evening. I suspect the ladies may not be attending. (Remember that old joke. Why don’t women like the three stooges? Because they are not funny.)

But hey, the movie is FUNNY! I would recommend it to anyone with a second grader’s sense of humor, someone who has been hit over the head with a hammer( or sledge hammer) too many times, someone who likes movies with no redeeming social value or someone who just wants a few beers and a good movie – in other words, your typical male.
