Top Three Thrift Stores in Bakersfield, California

Bakersfield

Bakersfield has several thrift stores but some are definitely better then others. If you’re in Bakersfield and don’t know your way around the thrift stores yet, then this article will help get you started.

1. Rad

Rad is located at 20 Bernard Street, nearest cross street is Union. Rad has always been my favorite thrift stores. The prices are usually pretty good and ever Saturday, they have a sale where everything under one dollar is fifty percent off and anything over one dollar is thirty percent off. Plus during the week, if you spend ten dollars, they will give you a coupon to receive two dollars off your purchase. This coupon is not good on Saturdays. Sometimes the store is messy but that is due to all the people that shop there. Rad has large clothing sections for men, women and children. They have books in two sections of the store, knick knacks along the front window of the store, plus much more. They open at 9 am Monday through Saturday and 11 on Sundays.

2. Best Value Thrift Store

Best Value Thrift Store, 1616 Niles Street, is open Monday through Saturday. They are the second best thrift store in Bakersfield to go to for clothing. As a mother of only boys, I’ve found that it’s very important to know which thrift stores offer the best deal on clothing because boys are constantly growing and accidentally messing up their clothes. Best Value has a huge clothing section for everyone in the family. The prices on their clothing may seem high at first but you need to keep looking. They mark down their clothes after they

haven’t sold after a certain amount of time. I have gotten several clothing items here over the years for under a dollar, and sometimes even for under fifty cents! The store is kept clean and the staff has always been helpful. The only thing I don’t like about Best Value is that some of their other merchandise is expensive. They do mark down other items but to me, it doesn’t seem as often as they mark down their clothing.

3. Goodwill Clearance Center

Bakersfield’s newest Goodwill Clearance Center is on Union Ave right next to the crosstown freeway. Inside everything is sitting out in bins and you have to go through them all if you want to find treasure. The prices are VERY affordable (much cheaper then the regular Goodwill’s) as they weigh most items on a scale and price you that way. For the better stuff, they have an auction every day at 11 am. You have to sign in and show them your drivers license if you want to participate. Even though they do have a lot of stuff that should go straight into the garbage, I have gotten all sorts of neat things like books, clothing, sheets, seasonal decorations and even luggage. You’ll want to spend at least an hour or more here going through all of the bins.
