Casual Dining at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas

Atlantis Resort, Johnny Rockets

Casual restaurants are few and far between at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas. So if you’re not in the mood to pay sky-high prices or wear your finest clothing, but you just want unique, casual dining, Atlantis is home to a few gems for just such an occasion.

Johnny Rockets

This fifties diner comes alive with music and dancing every night in the Marina Village at Atlantis. Peppy waitresses and waiters put on their dancing shoes and groove to the sounds of the fifties, sixties, and seventies while you enjoy mouth-watering burgers made with Johnny Rockets’ own specialty sauces, accompanied by French fries, onion rings, and scrumptious shakes and malts in over ten different flavors.

Johnny Rockets isn’t your average American burger joint. All-American in appearance, Johnny Rockets brings a zesty sensation to the table with every burger. Choose from the Smokehouse Burger, loaded with a ranch-barbecue sauce and breaded onion rings along with their signature Smokehouse cheese, or try the smoky blend of the bacon cheddar burger smothered with Johnny Rocket’s mysteriously delicious sauce. Top it off with a beverage of your choice, or for that real 1950’s experience, order a shake or malt to dip your French fries in!

Prices at Johnny Rockets are essentially the same as those you’d expect in the United States. However, there are no free refills on beverages, and to complete your meal, you’ll need to spend an extra four dollars or so to include French fries and a drink with your nine-dollar burger. And as always, a 15% gratuity fee is added to your tab.

Anthony’s Bar and Grill

Even though Anthony’s Bar and Grill isn’t technically affiliated with Atlantis, its close proximity to the resort makes it a perfect dining choice. Located across the street from the Atlantis Marina, Anthony’s Bar and Grill serves up a wide array of fish dishes, hamburger baskets, pizza, and salads.

Anthony’s has something for everyone on the menu, whether you’re a fish fanatic or prefer to stay on the safe side. Best of all, they’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner – a rare find at most Bahamian restaurants.

Breakfast is much like IHOP, with choices varying from the All-American platter to the International sampler to a steak and eggs platter. Kid’s menus are available upon request.

The lunch menu provides substantial meals without substantial prices; choose from limited breakfast items, fish sandwiches, riblets, and BBQ chicken.

But Anthony’s truly shines at dinnertime, with the most options available for meal choices. If you’re in the mood for a burger, simply as for it to be medium-well done, as they’re not as picky about cooking meat thoroughly in the Bahamas as we are in the United States. Gourmet fish pastas and delicious meat pizzas are available for the taking as well. However, your best choices at Anthony’s remain on the fish side of the menu. One of their best dishes, though a little pricy at $29.00 per plate, is Anthony’s Seafood Platter. No other platter serves up a better selection of fish prepared to please. Cracked conch, conch fritters (which are much like Hush Puppies with fish), breaded shrimp, and a grouper fillet grace the platter, accompanied by sweet and sour Apricot Horseradish sauce and zesty Tartar sauce.

Steaks are also available, but beware – Bahamian steaks aren’t exactly New York strip. You’ll end up paying New York prices for Hardee’s grade steak.

As always, a 15% gratuity fee is added to your tab.

Marina Pizzeria

Okay, so you went to the Bahamas and got pizza… big deal, right? As a matter of fact, it is a big deal.

The Marina Pizzeria, situated on Atlantis’s Marina Waterfront with a beautiful dockside view of multi-million-dollar yachts, serves up some of the most delectable yet different pizza one could ask for outside of American soil. Though not an eat-in restaurant (tables and chairs are located just outside the entrance), the Marina Pizzeria provides gourmet pizza that’s better than comparable to American pizza parlors.

So what’s so special about their pizza? Let’s start with their wide selection of toppings. Choose from Mediterranean pizza, ripe with tomatoes, basil, and garlic toppings. Or, select one of their gourmet fish pizzas – no, we’re not talking about anchovies, we’re talking actual Bahamian fish.

Of course, if you’re not in the mood to try something new, they offer typical American toppings as well. Cheese and pepperoni pizza are available for the asking, and they make a killer 4-meat pizza pie also. And their sweet, zesty sauce is certainly an asset to each of their pizza pies.

But what if not everyone in your group wants the same kind of pizza? No problem. You can order by the pie or by the slice. And you can do so without breaking the bank. We purchased a large 4-meat pizza, a personal slice of pepperoni, and four drinks for about $40.00.

However, the Marina does not serve water, so if you’re thirsty, you must purchase a soda, Gatorade, Tropicana, or other refreshment from the Marina Pizzeria cooler. Or, drop over to Starbucks, which is just a few doors down, and give yourself a real caffeine jolt along with your livewire pizza.

Best of all, you can choose to eat your pizza wherever you please. Dine outside on the dock, bring it back to your hotel room, or carry it right onto your yacht. Yes, we even saw fancy boat owners hauling back boxes of pizza to share with their yachting club guests for dinner.

Whatever pizza you choose and wherever you wish to eat it, you’re certain to enjoy a night on the Marina with pizza from this joint. Hey, if millionaire yacht owners eat here, it must be good!
